I am seeking clarity on two questions that are a bit elusive for me.

The SPO-15LM offers radar warning of ea painting about the sky when I am flying. I understand that the indicator offers information on the primary threat and that the range scale increases as range decreases to radar source.

1. When a radar lock (solid audible tone) is established on my su27, I presume the SPO-15LM is giving me the range to my threat. In a BVR/Jamming situation, can this be used for me to "Launch overide" and toss out a R27 based off of the range lights on SPO? Is this advisable?

2. When ea launches on me (beeping audio), am I correct in assuming the SPO-15LM automatically switches from providing information on launch platform to the missile seeker itself? Does the launch platform become Secondary (little lights on SPO) so I can still get an idea of their maneuvering?

Thanks

1. It's not giving you range to target, it's giving you emitter strength. This is a function of both the range to the emitter, and the emitter type. For example, a more powerful radar that's farther away might show up the same as a weaker radar that's closer. However, if you can identify the type of aircraft that's painting you, then you can indeed use the SPO to launch a HOJ shot in a jamming scenario, and this is a standard tactic.

2. The SPO will only track an active missile that's gone pitbull (autonomous guidance). Until then it will still be tracking the launching aircraft. So no, the beeping doesn't mean that it's tracking the missile, it only means that a missile has been launched. Unless of course its a short range fight, in which case the missile will go pitbull immediately.
