I can't find an answer anywhere. How far out does it look? There is no expected range input to consider?

Depends. IN a rear pursuit on a Afterburning target: 50+kms.

It depends on the target's heat signature. A fighter can pull the throttles to idle in a head-on situation and give you 20km detection range at best in this manner, possibly as little as 10. Don't quote me on this, it's been a while.

Ka-50's have very low IR signature.

Fighters using afterburners and with their tails turned to you have pretty huge IR signatures.

The flanker's IRST is not a primary detection and engagement sensor: It is a backup for the radar in case of heavy ECM primarily, and for sneakiness (With a little kind help from GCI) as a secondary function.

If my memory serves the head-on non-AB does indeed get it as low as 10km against an Eagle. Significantly better on rear aspect though, even against non-AB. My tests back then weren't about max ranges though (hence no AB's) - they were about sneakiness. Launching ET's from below on targets up high. I die all the time to people doing that. :P

Yes, but that's LO / FC EOS.

If talking real ones ranges are seriously reduced.

Within the context of this thread, we're speaking about FC 2.0.
