troenix Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Hello all - I hope this is a good place to post this message...if not then I applogize. I have 2 controllers that I would like to sell that may/may not work for this type of sim but I want somebody to enjoy them as I am not a flight sim user per se. Here is a description I wrote up to sell them on Ebay last year (obviously they didn't sell...): ------------------------------------------------------- Almost new Sumcom F-15E Talon Tactical Control Stick and the Strike Force Throttle Controller, both on their original boxes with all equipment and instructions. The reason that I say they are "Almost New" is because my dad gave these to me, but I don't think he ever used them and I never did, but they basically look new. Other than being taken out of the boxes to inspect the condition they are new from what I can see, and from what I can tell they we're expensive, somewhere around $280 for the set. If I were a pilot looking to hone my skills at flying with a flight simulator, these 2 controllers would be what *I* would look for. I've never really looked at a control stick in a fighter jet, and I have no idea what the buttons do on these 2 units, but I think I could blow something outta the sky with a vengeance if I tried! There's a *LOT* of controls to use, they look pretty authentic...so I figure hopefully somebody can put 'em to good use - I hate to see them sit and collect dust when they can still be used. Please let me know if you have questions or want to see them for yourself as I have camera images I can send/post, email Cory at debian_mang@yahoo.com ------------------------------------------------------- I suspect if this forum is the wrong place to be, can you point me in the right direction? Thanks for reading! -Cory-

Hi troenix, and welcome to the forums! That is a nice controller set for it's day. (I have a set, also). The problems that are working against you selling them are: - They are no longer produced/supported. There are no drivers for the more recent operating systems. - They use the old analog game port and keyboard connectors. - While up until recently, they were the only mass produced split throttle HOTAS arrangement out there, there are now two mainstream models with another due out this year. That is not to say they won't be of interest to someone, as there are some very clever people on here. Other folks have converted them to USB before, and there may be someone who wants to take a shot at that. I was thinking about doing that with mine, up until the split throttle offerings from Logitech, Saitek and Thrustmaster started getting previews / reviews. I still may do it someday, but it seems much less likely now. I'm guessing it is not your forte', but if you have the skills and could convert the controllers over to USB (with Leo Bodnar's board, or whatever), you might get a nice chunk of change out of them.... hard to say. There could be an F-15 fan out there that would make a puddle over that. Good luck! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] There's no place like 127.0.0.1
troenix Posted July 8, 2010 Author Posted July 8, 2010 Ok, thanks for that information, and digital_steve - you're correct...I should have introduced myself. Actually I used to enjoy flying R/C airplanes back in the 1980's & 90's with my dad, but can't afford to anymore (especially with the manner in which I land my planes...). As of now sometimes I will fly the digital birds using RealFlight G3 and I'm pretty good with that, no cost to crashes there LOL (spacebar = new plane)!! So CyBerkut - would a serial to USB adapter not work with these controllers or have they not been tested? Can you direct me to where/how to convert these using "Leo Bodnar's board"...and thanks again for replying guys - I tried the forum for x-plane.org and got flamed for even posting! -troenix-
Sokol1_br Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 Troenix, USB/Gameporte adapter generaly work only for axis (X,Y) and 4 buttons... Is doable "USBified" Suncom stick and throttle with BU0836 or similar. I do this - but because the slider potentiometers used by Suncom, hard (or impossible) find replacements with exactly dimensions, and the "sattelite" disk used in Suncom gimbal make very difficulty use HALL sensor + magnets. I do this - but work and difficulty involved make these option uninteresting. Sokol1_Br

I suspect you meant an analog game port to USB converter though, and that doesn't really get it done either. I know a number of different ones have been tried by various people to no real avail. As Sokol said, you might get the X&Y axis and a few buttons, but no where near the functionality of the total HOTAS. There was an epic thread on someone's conversion process... I think it was over on the X-Plane forums, but it might have been a different one. (I can't check it where I'm at right now...) It was, seriously, a LOT of work. troenix Posted July 10, 2010 Author Posted July 10, 2010 Yeah I guess these controllers are a bit dated (dangit!)...it's a shame too as they are virtually unused - still in the original boxes and have the disks and instructions, and it appears the cables were never even stretched out...I attached 2 images below from when I was gonna sell 'em on Ebay. Well then gents - I really do appreciate all your help on this, you guys enjoy flying and I'll keep checking back for more info. -troenix-
aaron886 Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 I would LOVE to take that SFS throttle off your hands! Are you interested in selling it? I'd be rewiring the interior to make it work with a modern computer. 1
