Can anyone explain how is it possible when in manual is written that i have 10 activations??? I have to say, that i am pretty dissapointed with this kind of drm. thanks for response [sigpic][/sigpic] MB MSI x570 Prestige Creation, RYzen 9 3900X, 32 Gb Ram 3333MHz, cooler Dark rock PRO 4, eVGA 1080Ti, 32 inch BenQ 32011pt, saitek X52Pro, HP Reverb, win 10 64bit

Rodney Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Honestly....... 8 (eight) activations and 10 (ten) deactivations. Viper does the activation process work the same as Black Shark where if we were to run out we can ask for a refill? And are we allowed to backup the registry key if we decide to do a reformat of the hard drive?
jctrnacty Posted July 18, 2010 Author Posted July 18, 2010 Honestly....... 8 (eight) activations and 10 (ten) deactivations. Really?? I dont understand, why have more deactivations than activations, seem a liitle unlogical to me. CAn you explain that to me? Rodney Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Really?? I dont understand, why have more deactivations than activations, seem a liitle unlogical to me. CAn you explain that to me? Thanks You really have more than 8 activations when you count deactivations. If you activate then deactivate you get that activation back so for example you could be looking at 7 activations for as long as you have deactivations. When you run out of deactivations then you'll see those 7 activations drop by one every time you activate. And if it's similar to Black Shark you ask for more activations when you run out.
EtherealN Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Here's how it works: You have 8 activations and 10 deactivations. You install and activate. That obviously deducts 1 activation, and you now have 7 activations and 10 deactivations. The de-activations allow you to re-use your previous activations in case you change hardware or purchase another computer. Having more deactivations than activations make perfect sense. Your license is for use on one machine, as detailed in the EULA. The "logical" thing would then be to have 1 activation and 10 deactivations. However, since ED is aware of the fact that "things happen" there are extra activations (total of 8 ) thrown in for those cases where your hard drive dies or things like that happen and trigger activations, same for some software suites (like VMware) that do funny things to registries and "eat" activations. The system used with FC2 is identical to the one used with DCS:BS in every respect. If you lose all your activations through legitimate means (as in, not through installing it on 8 machines and then suddenly needing to re-activate on each one). Refer to the EULA you signed and the manual, which details all of this. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
jctrnacty Posted July 19, 2010 Author Posted July 19, 2010 Anyway i wanted to support ED, so i bought FC 2. Still dont understand why should i have more deactivations than activations. Maybe i am too stupid to understand that. EtherealN Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 (edited) As I said: your license is for one simultaneous install: that is, you are not allowed to use it simultaneously on multiple computers without having one license for each computer. Technically this means that all that is required to make it "work" is one (1) "activation" and then a bunch of "deactivations" to let you re-use that activation. Basically, such a scheme would enforce the license agreement. But because ED realises that sometimes you can have computer problems and "lose" the activation, ED gave you extra activations. Having more than one activation is linked to the possibility of computer failures. Having deactivations is what is linked to "normal use". Think of it like this: deactivations "re-use" a previous activation. Normal use would mean that you pretty much never use more than one activation anyhow, since you'll deactivate when modifying your computer or moving to a new computer. Since the license is for use on one machine, the only reason to have use more than one activation would be computer problems. Any other use that stays within the license agreement would use deactivations.
