Luckyslayer92 Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Hello, i have a question about what happens if you run out of activations. I used about 4 activations. 2 for me and brothers computer, 1 for changing the cpu of my brothers gaming rig, and Since my computer just got a shiny new motherboard and cpu i had to reformat. I am dumb for not deactivating first.. oops :music_whistling: Since i like to tinker with my computer i might run out of activations. Would there be a way to prove i bought the game and get them back? On a side note i think it would be cool if they do what Norton antivirus does and add a cool online service for activating and deactivating keys. You can only activate it 5 or so times, but you can choose who to deactivate and never run out of keys.
Panzertard Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 You would be breaking the license agrement if you use 1 license for 2 computers/people. Normally they give new actrivations if you run out, unless they find suspicious activity like sharing the activations with friends etc. You've bought the right to use the game for yourself - and your pc's. But not for anyone else - so be careful with that. The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning
159th_Viper Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Navigate to your main install folder and locate and peruse the licence.txt document (EULA). ....I used about 4 activations. 2 for me and brothers computer, 1 for changing the cpu of my brothers gaming rig.... Your actions as above are in direct contravention of Clause 3.1(a) of the EULA. The SF activation record will in all probability also reflect this - Just an issue to keep in mind when you request further activations. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Luckyslayer92 Posted July 25, 2010 Author Posted July 25, 2010 The computers are in the same household if that makes any difference... It was only because i had a Pentium 4 and the game would run bad on my computer. He does not play simulators, so only i use the game. I uninstalled and deactivated the copy on my brothers computer just in case, because i don't want to get in trouble. Also there is no need to have it on his computer anymore because i now have a quad core and do not need his rig. If or when my activations run out where would be the proper place to request them to be refilled?
EtherealN Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 The proper place to request a "refill" would be the relevant activation mail adress for each product: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=27746 Be sure that whenever you have the misfortune of running out of activations and contact the support staff, you include a clear and concise explanation of what lead to the quick depletion, and in this case you would probably want to include a note about the install on the second computer being to allow you specifically to play it due to your own computer's inability to run it satisfactorily - it may look like a suspicious EULA violation and explaining it right away might help speed things up. Technically being in the same household does not make a difference, but you running it on a different computer due to your own not being up to the task might fall within the "spirit of the law" even if not "the letter", as far as I know. (I am not an authority on EULA interpretation though, the ED support staff is. :P ) Just remember: do it when your activations and deactivations run out, not beforehand. The guys have enough to do with the everyday support. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
vortex360 Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I am down to 2 activations on Black Shark. I am activated now but I recovered via a drive image that was pre-activated. I am technically deactivated because I deactivated before I recovered the drive image. Can I still deactivate it before I reformat? I just bought Flaming Cliffs 2 and want to make a recovery disc containing both products already activated but I don't want to burn up another Black Shark activation.
Panzertard Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Yes, you can deactivate - it will spend a deactivation instead of an activation. The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning
