SU-33 on the Admiral Kuznetsov? or are you using a mod?

Just go to burners and fly straight until you get enough speed, not much to it.

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

Using the EFA MOD.

Latest version.

Wanted to take-off with an F-14 Tomcat.

So , really i like to know why it drops down with full burners , flaps and so on.

Check the loadout that you are using and make sure that it is within limits for a carrier take off.

The jet dropping down at the end of the cat stroke is to be expected to some degree. I remember watching the Tomcats do cat shots during OEF. If you were standing next to or aft of the island on the flight deck they would drop from sight. It was one of those things where you always held your breath until it came back into view. Hornets would drop too but never out of sight like the Tomcats.

Remember that the cats only work for A.I.....

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

What? Seriously? You mean the EFA mod, for the VNAO mod also?

Not true. Cat launches are simulated in VNAO. Unfortunately without the steam and rush of FSX cat launches. But once you clear the bow of the Carl Vinson in the VNAO you get a speed boost. Enough to get you airborne. Tomcat's with all-Phoenix load out require a bit of a run-up to get airborne (use the port-side cats and start their run-up just ahead of the number 5 wire).

I'm not sure whether EFA models the engines of the aircraft properly (doesn't for Harrier, but I'm working on the engine model of the Mk 107 Pegasus now). That makes take-offs extra tricky.

VNAO has as good engine models as you will get for LockOn's Simple Flight Model (SFM) for the F-18F and F-14D.

Good news. Thanks. I need to get this mod.

EDIT: OK now I see what you mean.

I got the VNAO FC2 RC3 and the tweaked FA-18F flight model for RC3, somewhere I located it. As earlier advised, I installed MODMAN 7.3 first and managed to make that work without major difficulty.

What I am missing are the cockpits for the US Navy carrier jets, and the payloads. I guess I should have installed some earlier version first....?

When making AI planes flyable, catapult will not work, it is that simple. By the way, the efA MoD doesn't alter engine or aerodynamics caracteristics of any airplane except the Harrier (for which it was required to make it al little bit more believable - try the original one !).

I didn't know the VNAO simulated cat shot. I have been searching ways of doing it myself, though I only came up with an unsatisfactory solution).

I wonder how did you do, through .lua scripts or otherwise ? If it isn't "for VNAO eyes only", I'd really like to know more about it, be it just a hint (by PM if you don't want to tell it in public).

If you'd rather keep it a secret, I'd understand.

@Robin Hood: I didn't write that bit of script, VNAO's Wraith ("jalebru" in these ED Forums) was the guy who did it. I will take a look to see how it was done though.

nb. The EFA Harrier needs several fixes. I've been changing the engine to match the Mk 107 Pegasus but still don't get the supposed cruise speed of 456 kts (check the Boeing page) and making sure the key and joystick bindings support weapons, adding smoke rockets etc.

Where there's a will... there's a way... either that or a high speed carrier...

I imagine it will work for EFA mod aswell

Watched the video. The FA-18E looks beautiful. But the take off speed looks slow.

Is it FC2? There can be 2 US carriers in the game?

Yes its FC2, well ofcourse it looks slow your effectively going 50+ knots before you set off. The only way to take off without using the full carrier I have found is as shown in the video, Carrier at full speed into a headwind. There can be as many carriers as you want if you make your own mission
