RipKirby Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 AI airplanes taking off even when no enemy air units are in the mission
asparagin Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 Maybe you can be more precise. I really don't see the bug here. Spoiler AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, MSI MEG X570 UNIFY (AM4, AMD X570, ATX), Noctua NH-DH14, EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti XC3 ULTRA, Seasonic Focus PX (850W), Kingston HyperX 240GB, Samsung 970 EVO Plus (1000GB, M.2 2280), 32GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4-3600 DIMM CL16, Cooler Master 932 HAF, Samsung Odyssey G5; 34", Win 10 X64 Pro, Track IR, TM Warthog, TM MFDs, Saitek Pro Flight Rudders
RipKirby Posted August 7, 2010 Author Posted August 7, 2010 Yes, GAI task planes are supposed to sit on runway on alert and take off when EW or AWACS sees incoming A/C. When there's no enemy at all, GAI planes should have no reason to take off but they still do.
nomdeplume Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Yes the GAI task seems half-implemented. Planes assigned to it will take off and immediately land again (taking them out of the mission) if their side doesn't have any enemy contacts. Your best bet is to put a trigger zone around the airfield with a size set to match the EWR or whatever you have nearby, and use that to activate the GAI group when an enemy aircraft enters the area. At that point the GAI flight's side ought to have enough information to send it to intercept. You might also be able to use an AWACS instead to provide a larger coverage area.
RipKirby Posted August 8, 2010 Author Posted August 8, 2010 Were you thinking moving trigger zone with AWACS? That's how I've solved it with an added AND unit alitude more than statement. Still, it would be such a time saver if GAI worked or the ME was user friendly, ie. If BLUE coalition units type AIR inside zone X activate unit Y - with the ability to copy paste each link of the statement. At this point, I am waiting for the modders to save the ME. Don't get me wrong, I love making the mission, I just have other things to do with my life as well :) It seems we aren't too far away from someone being able to program a persistent world for us - which would be more than awesome. Too stiff as is now.
