Jinro Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 I'm trying to enjoy the F15 campaign, but it is really starting to get on my nerves. On most missions, my F15 is parked twice as far away from the runway as my #2 wingman, and while I taxi at 20-30 kts (which is way too fast in real life), my #2 wingman beats me to the runway (AI also taxis at about 20-30 kts). Here's the problem...my idiot #2 wingman doesn't take off, he just sits there on the taxiway, just short of the runway. If he taxied onto the runway, then I could just go around him and take off, but he blocks the entire taxiway. At least in the original LOMAC my wingmen had the decency to take off if I was running slow....

I have seen a problem where i begin to taxi and stop for a sec or 2 and the wingman is on top of me. I have to let him pass. I can go around him though when he stops short. I guess it would depend on what a/c you are flying whether you can get around him. If you are luck you might be able to take another taxiway to the runway. Hope they look at this, as it can be a real pain. Cheers.:)
Jinro Posted August 13, 2010 Author Posted August 13, 2010 Unfortunately in the F15C campaign, many of the missions require me to arrive at a waypoint at a certain time (usually less than 6 minutes after engine start, which is unrealistic considering that there's no time for proper engine startup and pre-flight checks), and going to a different taxi way will cause me to fail the mission by missing the assigned flight times.
Grimes Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 The AI have incredibly linear and basic pathfinding skills at airbases. If their path is blocked or they are waiting for something they can't think to turn a different way or to just "go". The AI are waiting for you and always respond to you. They wont start taxiing until you start moving (if I remember correctly). And As long as you get on the runway before them they will take off without much problem. Or just change the mission from "Take off from Ramp" to "take off on runway". that would speed things up a ton. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. Just because you cut him off by taking a shorter taxiway to the runway does not mean you have to take off. You can do your engine checks etc. while waiting for the takeoff time. You can also adjust your speed to arrive at the waypoint on time. No reason why you can't meet your assigned flight times. Many ways to get there.:)

However, in the orignal LOMAC, they would taxi and takeoff on their own.
