Saeid Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 (edited) Friends, I got a brand new GTX 470. It shows a massive improvement compared to my older ATI 3870 in any game, but not in FC2...I almost get the same FPS as my pervious card. I noticed that the card stays in 2D mode most of the time during playing FC2 and sometimes jump to 3D mode...if you are familiar it means in 2D the core clock at 400ish and at 3D goes up to 840MHz (overclocked)...and GPU usage is merly goes more than 30% hmmmm?!!? By the way I have a C2Q 6600 @ 3400MHz and 4GB of DDR2 @ 1100MHz Edited August 20, 2010 by Saeid [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] EMBEDONIX all about electronics!
bumfire Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 (edited) Lockon and DCS are CPU bound more than bound by your video card. Any decent video card from say a 8800gtx will run this game perfect graphical wise, any stuttering and slow downs are caused by the cpu, better cpu wil give better results, but graphical wise, a 8800gtx is mroe than ample for lockon and dcs.. To get the best out of Lockon/DCS, well DCS blackshark anyway, maybe DCS a10c will be different, but to get the best out of it, all you need is a mid range video card but a high end cpu, so its no surprise that you dont see that much of a difference with a GTX470 compared to yourlast card. Although your clock speeds remain low in your video card, it will infact be in 3d mode, it just wont be needing alot of power thus it remains clocked lower as the power settings are probably on adaptive, to change that go into the nvidia control panel and in the manage 3d settings goto power management mode and then select maximum performance, that means your card will run fully clocked all the time. I dont see the need to do it for lockon as you wont get any gain in fps or eye candy. Edited August 20, 2010 by bumfire
Krippz Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 FC 2.0 and DCS Black Shark are more cpu bound than GPU bound. To put things into perspective I recently upgraded from a Radeon 4890 to a GTX 480 and am only seeing a modest improvement in my frame rate. DCS A-10C will be using the DX11 API so you should in theory expect to see better utilization out of your GPU. Konovalov Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Well it's all been said by the guys above. CPU clockspeed is the most important thing. I'm looking to replace my E6600 currently overclocked to 3.2ghz with probably an i5-750 and overclock it to near 4ghz. Also I don't think there is any benefit of more than 2 cores in FC2 Intel i7-8700K | Asus Maximus X Formula | Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR4 3200MHz | Gainward Phoenix GTX1070 GLH | Samsung 960 EVO NVMe 1 x 250GB OS & 1 x 500GB Games | Corsair RM750x 750W | Corsair Carbide Air 540| Win10 | Dell 27" 1440p 60Hz | Custom water loop: CPU EK-Supremacy EVO, GPU EK-GTX JetStream - Acetal+Nickel & Backplate, Radiator EK-Coolstream PE 360, Pump & Res EK-XRES 140 Revo D5, Fans 3 x EK-Vardar 120mm & 2 x Corsair ML140 140mm
Saeid Posted August 21, 2010 Author Posted August 21, 2010 Well thanks guys, I got the point. hmm a bit of wasting money I got this GTX 470 for lock on :( but no problem it is still pretty cool to watch directx11 benchmarks and demos atleast  I will play around with my cpu clock or later maybe I go for I7. Would be nice if ED guys consider this game to be more multi core friendly though. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] EMBEDONIX all about electronics!

Konovalov Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 They are working on multi-core optimization at the moment. Are you talking about for FC2? Or is this for the next title DCS A10C? Intel i7-8700K | Asus Maximus X Formula | Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR4 3200MHz | Gainward Phoenix GTX1070 GLH | Samsung 960 EVO NVMe 1 x 250GB OS & 1 x 500GB Games | Corsair RM750x 750W | Corsair Carbide Air 540| Win10 | Dell 27" 1440p 60Hz | Custom water loop: CPU EK-Supremacy EVO, GPU EK-GTX JetStream - Acetal+Nickel & Backplate, Radiator EK-Coolstream PE 360, Pump & Res EK-XRES 140 Revo D5, Fans 3 x EK-Vardar 120mm & 2 x Corsair ML140 140mm
