You must add a 3D cone in your 3D model (or à shape like the smoke (cross planes) or afterburner cone), than play with the animation (make it apear when your turning strong for exemple)

 

You could also animate blinking NAV Lights (argument gears out = blinking lights.

If I remember correctly the F-16 that the Virtual Viper East Coast Demo Team flew at last years VFAT had vapor effects, I have no idea how they were added though.

 

I guess you could link the effects to the animation of for instance the elevators, giving you vapor effects when the elevators are at a certain position, however this would give you vapor effects on the ground as well, so this isnt exactly ideal... Im not sure if there is a way to get the effects to react to g-forces, angle of attack and so on right now, so lets just hope that ED adds some vapor effects themselves soon.

Extra vapors were inculded in many WIP beta 3D models like Su-27P, F-15C by Walmis, F-16C etc but were removed later 'cause it looked so unreal in game.

 

"Vapor cones" forming around the fuselage during Hi G maneuvers and at Mach 1 were fixed to pop out of nowhere instantly. A better transition in forming vapor animation is needed to make it somewhat realistic however I don't know if LOMAC, FC and FC2.0 support it.
