Blaze1 Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 I've just be wondering, does anyone know if A-10A's with the original/similar specification cockpit to that seen here: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/95/Fairchild_Republic_A-10A_Thunderbolt_II_cockpit_2_USAF.jpg are still in service with the USAF?
Bwaze Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 I don't think so, I believe all the A-10's in service now have upgraded cockpit, even if they're not completely upgraded to latest A-10C level. Upgrades should be finished in 2012, but I guess now they're only updating the aircraft that were first to receive some of the upgrades.
Blaze1 Posted September 14, 2010 Author Posted September 14, 2010 Do you know when the cockpit upgrades began?
Bwaze Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Here's the timeline at the end of the article: http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/a-highertech-hog-the-a10c-pe-program-03187/ The Air Force awarded the Precision Engagement development contract to Lockheed Martin in 2001, and as the prime contractor Lockheed is expected to deliver a total of 356 kits over 5 years, at an estimated cost of $168 million. Lockheed Martin received the production contract in February 2005, with the first production kits delivered to Hill AFB in March 2006. We're really getting a brand new plane! :D
