K-Nadian87 Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Hey A-10 enthusiasts... I'm a rookie FC A-10 pilot and i've beaten the campaign with labels on. Im making my way back through it now without labels and obviously im having a little more difficulty completing some tasks. I'd say aside from really having to zoom to locate my tagets (which I enjoy doing actually), my main frustration is not being able to spot missiles... and this is particularly dangerous with IR missiles cuz I have no idea they are there. Ive done well up to mission 8B. I attempt to stick to planned route but end up blown apart every time by IR launches. I have since beaten the mission, but I did it by swinging around the opposite side (right) of the planned route.... flying high, and taking out the targets with AGMs at a safe distance. I sorta feel like thats how ive beaten all of the A-10 missions thus far tho... I almost feel like im cheating by hanging back and lobbing AGMs. I was hoping a veteran on here might post a track of themselves completing this mission and show me how its done. Please and thanks. K-nadian
Steel Jaw Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 (edited) There aint no rules in war, nothing is "cheating" in so far as you take your own route to the target or fight from a standoff position. As for spotting things without labels, we all have that problem. The pc screen lacks the visual acuity a real jet jock would have. Oh, and IR missiles? We all have trouble spotting them as well, and obviously they dont trip a RWR warning either. In fact, if you try flying the FC2 F15 or Su27, an IR only kill is saaweeet. K-Nadian87 Posted September 17, 2010 Author Posted September 17, 2010 Thanks Mower. Are we intended to fly the planned route at roughly 800 feet tho? When you go to mission planner and look at the WP's... they are marked with an alt of 200-250 meters... and as CAS i would like to do it that way... but its god dam near impossible.. for me at least.
Steel Jaw Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Well your ingress and egress profiles are gonna depend upon many issues. If the travel distance is long in friendly territiry a high alt is preferred for better fuel efficiency/range. But with the short travel times we have in these FC2 missiosn I would stay down low in the weeds (nap of the earth) to avoid radar/sams. Others may differ. Jinro Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 I'm curious about A10 attack runs. I'd like to find literature on the by-the-book techniques for lining up targets and taking them out. As for nap of the earth flying, that's works fine until you come up on a Shilka :P

GGTharos Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Sounds like you did things the smart way ;) As for entering a threat territory where you think MANPADS or other IR missiles will be used again you, forget about spotting them - you have a job to do, ie. kill your targets, have your flares out pre-emptively at some reasonable interval. So ... Ingress: Set your flarespammer to full power Find targets Kill Targets Egress: Keep flarespammer going Run like a little girl Do NOT come back for a re-attack if flares are low or out. Hopefuly you survived. Hey A-10 enthusiasts... I'm a rookie FC A-10 pilot and i've beaten the campaign with labels on. K-Nadian87 Posted September 17, 2010 Author Posted September 17, 2010 Thanks guys. Ill give it a few more runs. I always find it hard trying to locate my targets and spam flares at the same time. Any way of knowing how many flares you have remaining while in flight?? would hate to spam them all during ingress.
K-Nadian87 Posted September 18, 2010 Author Posted September 18, 2010 Wow. Thats great Falcon, thanks.
