No matter if I have external tanks on my plane or not , the fuel gauge just shows 3500 KG of fuel. If external views/cameras are disabled, how can I figure out if I am carrying extra fuel tanks or not?

And one stupid question: Why the fuel is measured in Kilograms and not in kiloliters ?

On the HUD you can see rectangle - as same as for weapons. Also use F-11 key (runway view).

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

Because the energy contained in your fuel is related to the mass of the fuel, not the volume. Also IIRC different fuels can have different mass per unit of volume.

In aviation world it is normal that the quantity of fuel is in kilograms or pounds. It is very important to know how heavy is your plane for start and landing procedures. But, in other hand, the consumption of fuel is given in gallons or liters per hour. So, pilot during his prepare to flight have to convert f.ex. kg to l, or he uses FMC.

Intresting, in USAF fighter jets the flow is measured in PPH.

@ Boberro : Thanks. I can now find out the tanks by looking at the rectangles/bars on the HUD.

@ GGTharos & Robos : Your replies are convincing. Thanks.

I never understood the F-15 gauges for fuel flow. The max is a 100 pound per hour???? There is no x10 ????? x100????

They are x10 I believe, IIRC - but they don't work right in FC.

On indicator in cocpit - yes; in russian machines in kg/h.

But i mean about manuals and specifications. For ex. manual for CESSNA 152 on pages 5-2 to 5-4:

Sometimes tanker-man takes you invoice with information how many kg of fuel was given into containers. Usually it refuels full, so you know it is 24.5 gallons.
