copen Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Love the added musical score. Regarding bingo fuel: I was under the impression that the wheel brake was hydraulically powered... how did that work without engine power? Regarding the drop from 45k feet... the manual seems to indicate that the windmill restart can only start one engine if another is running. It appeared you had zero engines at mission start. So I'm assuming you used the APU as if you had been sitting on the ramp, in which case you didn't require the windmill, correct? Did you use the TM Warthog to hit the engine switches? I can't imagine how you saw/clicked the buttons in the near-blackout state... kylania Posted November 29, 2010 Author Posted November 29, 2010 I was trying to test something failing at 20,000 ft but forgot the mission editor was set to meters, so when I set it to 20,000 it automatically changed it to 13,700. I thought that was find, if not weird, and started the mission. Problem was 13,700 was meters, so instead of starting in air at 13,700ft I started at 45,000 ft... above the ceiling of the A-10C I guess, and my engines died as soon as I spawned in. The Windmill start was basically just two buttons and a whole lot of falling! Here's the information from page 582: 1. Place the aircraft in a 30-degree dive. - Plummet from orbit, check! 2. Set the Bleed Air switch to OFF. - 0:19 in the video, check! 3. Set the Crossfeed switch to Crossfeed. - oops... forgot this part... 4. Once ITT of affected engine is below 150-c, set both throttles to MAX. - sure, why not? 5. Set the Engine Operate switch of the affected engine to IGN. - As you guessed I did this on my TM WH controller (you can hear the click at 0:38 when I turn to look at it) check! 6. Once engine is operating, move Engine Operate switch back to NORM. - can hear it spool up 0:45-0:47.. check! 7. Move Crossfeed switch to OFF. - Ooh, look is that a bird over there!? 8. Set Bleed Air switch to ON. - At 1:21, check! After I got back under powered and level flight I still had like 5-10 minutes of restarting other systems and everything to get back into operation. Sadly my goal of losing CADC at 20,000 ft never happened, even after leaving the pitot heat off for 30 minutes... copen Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 3. Set the Crossfeed switch to Crossfeed. - oops... forgot this part... Forgetting the crossfeed wasn't a problem because the other engine was dead anyway. I still have no idea how you restarted without turning the APU on. ie. Where was the bleed air to start either engine? Also, did you have to HOLD the engine at IGN position, or just click up once? I was under the impression you had to hold the engine in IGN until you saw it spool up. I have a feeling this sim, as hard as it is, has some of the realism set down. I once landed so hard on the front wheel that the wheel blew off, and I skidded to a stop. Just for fun, I then decided to spool the engines to max, and see if I could take off. With the front wheel existing only as a metal stump, I still managed to scrape across the dirt and take off! Not likely in real life. Evil.Bonsai Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Hehe...after the 'safe' at end of video, I was expecting the view to slew over to the enemies...and incoming fire.
