Before I drop a couple grand on a BoB machine in the coming years--I want to max my current performance with a $350 upgrade--and wondered if I'll see much of a difference.

Currently I've got a AMD 2100 XP running at 133mhz--with 1gb RAM at 133mhz, using an A7V333 mobo. I've got a Radeon 9800 Pro and an Audigy. The AGP is 4X only on my mobo.

Now--what If I upgrade to a new Asus board with supports a 400mhz FSB, and has 8X AGP, with 1 gb RAM running at 400mhz as well, and an AMD 3200 XP CPU?

Will I see much improvement by increasing the FSB from 133 to 400--and switching from 4X to 8X on the AGP slot?

Thanks for any replies---

I do not think that a mobo upgrade of 133 to 400 worth 350 usd. I advice you to jump from 2100 to AMD 64 3000+ 939 (around 150 usd) and MSI K8 Neo2 (around 100 usd). You have a nice video card and with the processor upgrade, you will have a performance boost...

Switching from 133 to 400 FSB will give you performance boost, going from 4x to 8x AGP probably won't make much of a difference. Those AGP versions don't have much between them.

So for the $350 I can upgrade mobo, cpu and RAM to AMD 64?

Yes I guess so, because I do not know the price range in your country. I live in Turkey and you can buy amd 64 3000+ for 160 usd, a nice 64 board for 100 usd and 2*512 ram for 100 usd... And prices in Turkey are much higher than for example USA or Europe.

350 usd is enough money for a nice performance jump...

Your mobo supports Socket A, and DDR333. Since it's a temporary upgrade, maybe look for a faster barton and some PC2700 ram as a cheaper alternative. I would only go to AMD64 if you plan on using some of the parts in your BoB system.
