RIC Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Hello I need some data I can use in Lockon I haven't found in the manual. Whats the landing approach AoA and proper descent rate for the Fulcrum? How exactly do I activate CCRP mode (again for the Fulcrum) for bombing and is it possible loft bombs? Is the tachometer right when it reads 102% on full afterburner?
Ironhand Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 AoA? Pitch should be approximately 2.5 to 5 degrees depending on your airspeed during your approach. Descent rate should be 5 m/sec. I usually start in on the glide slope at just under 300 km/hr, pitch 2.5 on the ADI, and a descent rate of 5 m/sec. The descent rate remains constant throughout the approach until the flare but I gradually slow so that I cross the inner marker beacon at about 250 km/hr. By the time I hit that speed my pitch has been slowly changing (with the speed decrease) to sit on 5 degrees. CCRP: Press and hold the weapon release key when the parameters are not correct for CCIP. (And continue holding the weapon release key throughout.) A diamond will appear on the HUD marking where the bombs will hit while the aiming pipper jumps to the top of the aircraft datum and an arrow appears on the range scale on the left side of the HUD. Fly straight and level. As the time for bomb release approaches, the arrow will start moving down the range scale. When it nears the bottom a tone will sound and shortly thereafter the bombs will release. For lofting, as the arrow starts moving down, start climbing. BTW, I believe there's a minimum altitude of 1000 m AGL or thereabouts for CCRP. Haven't done much A2G in the fast movers. Not sure about the tach. RIC Posted May 25, 2005 Author Posted May 25, 2005 AoA= Angle of Attack. It was easy to figure that out with the indexer when landing in Falcon 4 and Jane's F-18. So I figured there was a range I could go by on the Fulcrum's AoA guage. The way I've been landing was going by the recommended speed on the HUD which I guess gave me proper AoA. Thanks for the help man!
Ironhand Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 AoA= Angle of Attack. (Remainder snipped) Yes. I knew that. The "?" was that I was wondering why you were watching the AoA Indicator instead of the pitch indicator on the ADI. That's all. Keep flying and enjoy, Rich The reason I'm watching the AoA indicator are on pages 205 and 206 of the Flaming Cliffs manual. "The landing approach is performed at a defined angle-of-attack. Your current AoA can be viewed on the AoA indicator in the cockpit." and "In the process of landing, you should maintain the proper AoA." I didn't see where it mentioned to watch the pitch. But don't let my reply be taken the wrong way. I want to land the Fulcrum precisely thats all!
Ironhand Posted May 26, 2005 Posted May 26, 2005 What?!? READ the manual? Real men don't read the manual. :) Hmmm........ OTOH, that may be something to do this evening. If you're tracking the AoA, then the AoA should be somewhere around 5 degrees, I believe. Since the MiG-29 doesn't have an AoA Indexer, you can doublecheck me on the initial AoA reading by showing 2.5 degrees of pitch on the ADI with a decent rate of 5 m/sec and airspeed of 280 km/hr or so with flaps extended. Octav Posted May 26, 2005 Posted May 26, 2005 Is the tachometer right when it reads 102% on full afterburner? Sort of... whilst the maximum RPM indication of the RD-33 is 103%, it usually happens only during transients - when engaging or disengaging the afterbuner, or during rapid spool-up. For normal operation, nominal RPM at full military thrust or afterburner modes should be 98%. Octav

Octav Good I feared something was wrong on my end and I swear the needles went further than that on Flanker 2.51 betasomething. Ironhand soon as I get the chance I'll take 'er up and see what happens.
