New CAS mission: "A Bridge Too Far"

This is my first mission for A-10 (Beta 2) but I am an experienced mission maker in combat flight and tac-sims and am quite pleased with the way this turned out. It's deliberately small-scale and short in duration but has a few bells and whistles.

 

You are tasked with leading a two-ship in an attack across the FLOT on an armored convoy en route to reinforce Red infantry that is engaged with a small Blue force. There are numerous SAMs -- governed by random logic -- but also a SEAD flight of Tornadoes overhead. Another, AI, flight of A-10s will simultaneously attack an HQ bunker in the target area.

 

This is a good mission to practice with Mavericks, the TGP and CCIP/CCRP unguided bombs.

 

It's basically pretty well polished and tested but I am not yet satisfied with a small AI detail, which is how to get AI flights to break off and RTB while there are still targets of opportunity. Experienced mission makers please advise.

I just finished it although I got no message that the mission is completed.

 

There however some issues I missed or noticed and I add it here not to criticize but to let you know and if you want correct them.

The briefing mentioned the target as MTBL but the only legitimate target I found there were T-55 (MTB) and some BMRD.

I missed a list of radio frequencies (my wingman was not answering so I guess we were on different frequencies) and the JTAC function enabled on the US infantry on the bridge.

I received no objetive completed once I stopped the enemy column in front of our troops and if I failed I did not got a message either so basically I landed once I was bingo.

 

Anyway was impressive to see the Tornados at work, neutralizing the Tunguska.

It is a nice light misssion for doing some targeting pactice.

Thanks guys. Thanks for your welcome input, Furia. Here is my response:

 

 

 

- I cannot confirm the acronyms right now but there is a Red ATV convoy that preceeds the T-55s, I'm pretty sure it's BDRMs.

 

- There are messages for success in interdicting both Red convoys (i.e. not allowing them to get beyond the bridge) and failure (the opposite) by a certain time (mission start + 15 minutes, I think). These messages always work for me but I will take a look.

 

- I have not yet learned non-simplified radios and JTAC yet so they are not implemented in the mission. I am not aware of any JTAC or JFAC function and there is no AWACS, so as far as I know all target guidance has to be done with Mach-1 eyeball and the TDP.

 

- I have had no problem communicating with my #2 but, again, I've been using the simplified radios option. I decided to learn all the flight/weapons systems before tackling radios and JFAC.

 

 

 

I really appreciate the feedback and would be very happy to get more of it.
