spn Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 I appreciate any help you can give. My OC is XP and 32 bit. So you understand where the problem really is, when I go in Comm (\), I have the primary list which are all in white, no grey or black listings. I choose in this case Batumi and the sub-menu comes up in white, which tells me I have solid connection with that field and the items in that list are all in white but most of the options in the list are missing . I have 1. Inbound, 2. I'm Lost, 11. Previous Menu and 12. Exit. All of the other options (3 thru 10)in the menu are missing. This occures using both Simulation or Easy flight settings and I have Easy Comm selected in both situations. I have also discovered that the Comm commands issued with key combos (Lwin E. Lwin R, etc.) from my keyboard are also not working. I can communicate with the tower, wingmen, etc. and get a response's to the first two options but it's just that most of the items are missing since I installed Beta 1 ,2 full installs and Beta patch 3. I have tried the mic switches but that doesn't change anything to do with the other missing sub-menu items. I have searched the forums and have not been able to find any information concerning these issues. So if you have any possible solutions, it would be appreciated. Thank You!
nomdeplume Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 What other options are you expecting? Those are all I see using 'realistic' radio, plus a 3rd one if I've already called Inbound.
Frederf Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Comm (Key \) indicates you're using "easy comm" mode which filters out a lot of options based on context. Even in "easy comm" off a lot of options will be present only contextually. For example you can only ask for start up if you started at that airfield. If you start up the engines and try to ask for taxi you won't find the option since you "skipped a step."
spn Posted November 18, 2010 Author Posted November 18, 2010 (edited) Wouldn't the "Asking for Permission to Takeoff" be in the sub-menu when you create a mission to take off from runway location?? Edited November 18, 2010 by spn
Frederf Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 I believe when you select a takeoff from runway start the first thing ATC does is clear you for takeoff, much like they did in many/most DCS:BS campaign missions. Since you're not on their freq the second the mission starts you likely miss it.
spn Posted November 18, 2010 Author Posted November 18, 2010 OK! Thanks for everyones clarification with these questions.
spn Posted November 18, 2010 Author Posted November 18, 2010 Just for info purposes, I did a test mission from the "ramp start" and you could not ask for permission to takeoff until after you were on the runway itself, not off to the side.
nomdeplume Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 I always ask for takeoff clearance before taxiing onto the runway. You do need to be pretty close though. And I've only tried this from Senaki/Tshkakya.
WarriorX Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 (edited) Just letting you know I use realistic radio settings, so there may be differences with easy settings, but the communication flow for a cold ramp start and the ATC should be the same. First comm option should be "request engine start" After engines are up and running the second option should be "request taxi" Listen for the ATC to give you a specific runway to taxi to, write it down. Now you can use the fantastic airport charts by Shu, or hit F10 and try to figure out where on the airbase you are and where you need to go to reach the desired runway. Once you have your bearings start to taxi to the desired runway but do not enter the runway. Look for a "hold short" line that will look something like this: stop short of the solid yellow line and your next ATC option is now "request takeoff". You will be given clearance to takeoff, or told to hold for traffic, (I have never been told to hold for traffic yet). Taxi on to the runway and then takeoff. Hope this helps.
