krazybiskit Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Yes i know i will probably get smacked for asking this, but i was wondering the size of the combat flight sim genre. The reason i ask is that i read a post that stated the person couldnt belive that ED could actually stay in business making a product for a fan base as small as ours. Im NOT looking for ED's finacial statements. Could someone tell how many copies of Black Shark sold, or how many copies of warthog will sell. Maybe i am wrong, but i think that the combat flight sim genre isn't as small as some people think. Does anybody have any input on this subject?
26-J39 Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Im NOT looking for ED's finacial statements./QUOTE] Could someone tell how many copies of Black Shark sold, or how many copies of warthog will sell. Slightly contradictory comment maybe... I don't think any1 knows these figures except ED and/or affiliations. If ED were simply in the entertainment market I don't think they would be here today but fortunately for us, ( the simmers) ED have military contracts to fulfill also which gives them another avenue (& guessing main source) of revenue.. With these contracts there is an abundance of information about the modeled aircraft which ED can then simulate and suck us simmers into purchasing their product (with permission of-course).. :D And yes I agree the sim genre not as small as people think, especially with products like DCS being produced, but still a relative minority.

I suspect they also create considerable revenue by selling solutions to the military... http://simhq.com/_air13/air_440a.html Without that, I doubt we would see such high fidelity simulations from them.
