Raz_Specter Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 Hi All, I am just working my way through the training missions I downloaded from the DCS website and was wondering if someone could help with the Maverick mission. I have got to the point were it says "with the HUD set to SOI press the HOTAS DMS Right command to select the AGM-65H profile on Station 9" I think i have done this by just selecting DMS from the left MFCD and then clicking OSB 9, I am not sure how to set the HUD as SOI though. Any help would be appreciated thanks Mithandra Custom built W10 Pro 64Bit, Intel Core i9 9900k, Asus ROG Maximus Code XI Z390, 64GB DDR4 3200 RGB, Samsung 1TB NVme M.2 Drive, Gigabyte AORUS 2080TI, 40" Iiyama Display. MTFDarkEagle Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 You can set the HUD as SOI by coolie hat up short, then you can use DMS right short to cycle through profiles. Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
swift Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 Alternatively you can press 'U' on your keyboard to set HUD as SOI. BTW in guns mode you can't cycle through weapons profile with DMS but gun reticles.
mooshim Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 When one refers to "coolie hat". Is it safe to assume that both parties have a throttle? I'm having some trouble with the switchology in this sim. Is the "coolie hat" smth that I could just assign a key to on the keyboard? Or perhaps to an unused button the base of my stick? (logitech 3D) Many thanks! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Win7 | Intel Core 2 Quad | Q8400 @ 2.66GHz | 2.67 GHz 3.37GB of RAM 60gig Samsung SSD| GTX 570 "Operation: Bull by the Horns" "Bull Run 2.0"
nomdeplume Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 You select the "DSMS" (Digital Stores Management System) from the MFCD. The HOTAS DMS is the "Data Management Switch" on the stick.

Look in Options / Controls under the "HOTAS" section. The "coolie hat" is a four-way switch on the throttle. It'll already have keypresses assigned. You'll definitely want to get as many of the HOTAS commands onto your own HOTAS as you can, since it's what a real pilot has access to via their throttle and stick - a fairly clear indication that they're used a lot. Don't forget that you can assign a modifier button in the sim (button near the bottom left of the controls screen) which you can use to give your buttons multiple uses. For example, I have the pinky switch on my x52 set as a modifier, so the topmost hat switch on my stick can serve as the DMS, or as trim when I have the pinky switch held down. Similarly the main hat switch on my stick is the TMS and the coolie hat. Page 84 of the flight manual shows an image of the A-10C stick and shows you where the various switches are positioned on it. This gives you a good indication as to what's most used. The throttle image is on page 87.

Hi Does this also apply for those of us that are using the Cougar HOTAS beta 2 template which was posted in a fourm here? thanks Mithandra Custom built W10 Pro 64Bit, Intel Core i9 9900k, Asus ROG Maximus Code XI Z390, 64GB DDR4 3200 RGB, Samsung 1TB NVme M.2 Drive, Gigabyte AORUS 2080TI, 40" Iiyama Display. tusler Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 Hi, Don't know if this will help or not but here is the warthog controller manual which shows pic's of the buttons, switches with their proper names. It helped me see what i am up against when setting my controller up. Plus it is as the real aircraft is and you know millions of $ were spent figuring out what the best position of the controls should be for the pilot. I am still trying to memorize the switch setup...over 50, what can I say :music_whistling: Hope this helps though.Warthog.pdf Ask Jesus for Forgiveness before you takeoff :pilotfly:! Raz_Specter Posted November 22, 2010 Author Posted November 22, 2010 Thanks Tusler, I am currently using a HOTAS cougar but very very tempted to get a warthog at the moment I am trying to talk myself into it :) The only concern I have is that there is a thread with loads of people having issues were the throttle just stops working or the firmware get wiped. thanks Mithandra Custom built W10 Pro 64Bit, Intel Core i9 9900k, Asus ROG Maximus Code XI Z390, 64GB DDR4 3200 RGB, Samsung 1TB NVme M.2 Drive, Gigabyte AORUS 2080TI, 40" Iiyama Display. I've only seen two people complain about that really. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Christmas Cheer - A Landing Practice Mission : Beta Paint Schemes : HOTAS Keyboard Map : Bingo Fuel - A DCS A-10C Movie
StrongHarm Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 I posted a quick reference for the HOTAS functions that I find useful. Nearly everything you need is in the manual. Those things that aren't in the manual can be found with the forum search function, and beyond that through flight hours. There is no shortcut. The Call of Duty mentality has this generation thinking "there's not much to battle, point and shoot.. I could do that.. in fact I'm really good". In reality people spend most of their time in battle hoping they don't screw it up because it's so complex and there are so many critical things to know. The Call of Duty equivalent to real flight sims is probably Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. You jerk the stick and push the button fast and you're good to go. You won't find that here. Reading the manual is mandatory to getting the most from DCS. Learning "enough to shoot" is insufficient. Know that there's a lot to learn, and enjoy the fact that you'll never stop learning. It's important to remember that Game ≠ SIM. If you put the time in, there will be a moment that you look down at your cockpit and sit a little taller because you've just realized you have complete command of that awesome piece of hardware. It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm
