Shake3000 Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Isn't it strange that sometimes even though I have Los to a target with the TGP that it displays M, as in target is masked (by aircraft), and the laser designator cannot be fired? Anyone know why this is? Couldn't find an explanation in the manual or the forums.
boredtechie Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Hi, Where possible include a track... ah hell I'm starting to sound like ED :D Is it possible your TGP was looking at something else entirely slaved to STPT or something like that. I've had similar moments of WTF and found my TGP was looking at the next steerpoint because it was slaved and the flight plan was on auto. Quick checks now are is the TGP diamond on the HUD/TAD where I expect it to be and looking out the window at the TGP itself. If you're in a real rush and can see what you're after in the HUD just boresight the TGP and don't worry about where it was looking. bt
Shake3000 Posted November 22, 2010 Author Posted November 22, 2010 Well this only happens at extreme angles or when I've overflown the target and it is behind me so I was assuming it's not a bug but a feature...
mvsgas Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 RL TGP has limits where it can fire the laser. The view does not have to be block. It's programed that way because the laser is strong enough to cause serous eye damage, even if it reflects from the aircraft. AFAIK, the programing assume all station are loaded, so if your looking below a pylon or within certain angles it assumes it could reflect damaging laser energy. It does this by comparing currant LOS with information in memory ( depending on aircraft type, masking is different) Hope this makes since. To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..
MTFDarkEagle Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 the M also shows for example when you are tracking a spot, while you are in a turn, and you would level out, the plane would block the fov. Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
