SonofEil Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 (edited) Super 8mm film from Afghanistan in '04. A lot of A-10A maintenance and a sortie launch at the end, among other things. If you have 12 minutes, please have a look: 2aK8-BHgDsY&feature (A couple of the guys in the film ended up working on the development team for the C mod.) From the description: Super 8mm footage from Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan. There is sound (music) at 7:30 and a short video clip after the music stops, if you can watch that far. The film is pretty fogged from six years of improper storage prior to processing and transfer. Oops. Unedited footage at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_ySP5... but there's really not much more to see. I just rearranged it and cut out the indecipherable parts. SonofEil Posted November 27, 2010 Author Posted November 27, 2010 (edited) Wow, great video thank you. What a gathering at 7:18, can you buy small arms at local merchant? The guy at the end almost fly :) They weren't "real" shoot-able guns. The joke was on the soldiers though. The guns couldn't go through customs!! The market was on base, near the entrance. I don't think they allow it at all now. Almost everything was chinese crap anyway, pirated dvd's, knock-off watches, etc. Wow, great video! Glad you shared that with us, some fascinating footage there. I'm glad I found it! It was lost for the last six years, in a box in my mom's barn in Texas. I found it while helping her pack up for a move. Unfortunately, due to humidity and large temperature swings, the film came out foggy. Also, one of the film stocks is no longer supported, so it was processed in the nick of time! Kodak stops supporting K40 film next month! Thanks for the compliments! MTFDarkEagle Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Nice video! Rep! Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
3poch Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Awesome video! What is that crazy music? It sounds like an orchestra tuning, but better. It's too bad you didn't get a full take-off!
SonofEil Posted March 31, 2011 Author Posted March 31, 2011 (edited) The music is the Prelude from Das Rheingold. I think I did shoot a full take-off sequence. There were also ten or fifteen army chinooks parked next to our A-10's. I shot a pretty complete lauch sequence of the A-10's. Then five or six Chinooks started spooling up as well so I decided to shoot that. Bad idea. The truck I was in got stopped on the flightline by a group of what I assume were special forces. Plainclothes, bearded, with M4's trained at the truck and all. Needless to say, they were not too happy about their launch being filmed and confiscated the roll that I had in camera. And that's why I don't have a complete launch. Edited March 31, 2011 by SonofEil i7 7700K @5.0, 1080Ti, 32GB DDR4, HMD Odyssey, TM WH, Crosswind Rudder...
