This could be useful for a lot of people that dont build their own pit but still are looking for more realism?

**edit**, it also could be handy for those who are building a cockpit...

Sorry for posting here but

I would like to know if a upgrade of the ram will do any change of fps or stutter?

I now have 6 gb DDR3(pc3 10600) memory speed 666.7 Mhz

And thinking of 3 x 4 Gb of the same stick (corsair)

Nice board, and not overly expensive.

sofie_59, 6G should be sufficient.. as long as your system is optimized enough to have the free resources to use it. DCS is really more dependent on CPU than anything.. keep that in mind while you're prepping your system.

There are lots of good posts on these forums about tweaking your system to run better with DCS. Set aside a few hours one day to explore them and see what has worked for others. There was a time when sims were attractive to computer enthusiasts simply for the fact that they taxed the system so much. To test your config and optimization skills you needed only find a good sim and see how well you could get it running. This condition hasn't changed really, but user perception has. Many feel that they should be able install and run a complex sim like DCS with no system preparation.. like Call of Duty or something. Spending time on system config will make all the difference in DCS. I would explore the following tweaks, in order of importance:

  • Windows Config:
    1. Running processes
    2. Running Services
    3. GUI (Kill windows aero and dreamscene! Turn off visual bells and whistles!
See this guide as an example.)
    4. Pagefile

    [*]Video drivers and config

[*]Proper in game settings for your platform

    [*]Hardware fitness

If you don't have the skill or inclination to alter your windows config, there's a great tool called Game Booster. Clicking 'game mode' in the app disarms *some* of the running processes and services that eat the system resources that DCS desperately needs. After using DCS, you simply click 'Restore Normal Mode' in the app and it restarts all the processes and services that it stopped (I personally use a custom batch file to accomplish this, but I guess it's the same thing). It also has the capability to thoroughly defrag game files so you won't get drive access bottlenecks.

It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm

Don't think increasing RAM will help much. Afaik must games can't really use more than 4GB atm anyways.

If you have a 64bit OS you can use more than 4G. True, unless the app/sim/game you're using is 64bit, it won't use more than 4, but it's good to have your OS outside of the 4g that it can use. In experimenting I installed Crysis32 on Vista32 and recorded about 50fps average. I started 2 other games (EVE Online and Arma2 I think) while running Crysis32 and it went down to about 20fps. I then installed Crysis64 and Vista64 and was getting about 70fps average. I started 5 other games and 20 browsers and still had 70fps in Crysis.

See my earlier post about system config.

Yep, there are not the cheapest but their inventory is huge.

You probably have a I7-920(?) That should do the trick i think. Dont know if you are familiarized with your PC, but a overclock could also do the trick.

But i have so say that OC-ing a I7-920 is kind of tricky so you need to now what you are doing.

As i read that the recommended specs are a I7-970 you should be able to make it (if you have a descent cooling!!)

As Strongharm says: turn off all the desktop gimmicks. I have set my desktop standard on the classic windows theme.

Until now speaking for myself, i do not notice any difference between the 32bit or 64 bit windows 7 with 8GB, allthough the 64 bit should have more reserves with my 8GB. Software needs to be written to adress memory at larger values. Dont know if this is done with DCS to adress 12 GB.

What kind of GPU do you have?

You shouldn't be receiving any stutter at all I would think. Especially with 64b and an SSD! Check the above post about config.
