After watching some u-tube videos, lets look at this one..

DCS A-10C Warthog Producer Note 2 Start Up

I would like to know the system specs of the PC, that video was shot on. I know it's a beta, but I have not found game and card settings that look like that. Smooth cockpit panning and clairty of gauges etc. Not to mention the scene and textures.. Here is my system, that should run it with no issues.. Do I have to go buy a EVGA GeForce GTX 580 for 500 bucks to make it happen?

Also have issues running MS FSX, but we all know what a system hog that is LOL...

Than you Wofat

That was created using Wags' PC, AFAIK. Clarity of gauges is dependant on your texture and anisotropic filtering settings.

Wags might have used the games 'render track to avi' feature to get the smooth framerate, although i am not sure about this one. If you are not satisfied with the current performance, please wait for beta 4.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

i myself get allmost a constant 30-40 frames, peaking at 60 only due to vsync being enabled to prevent tearing.

Even with MAV and TGP active on the mfd's.

All settings are on high only exception being water, which is set to low.

Correct me if im wrong but as far as i knew water was being textured on the whole map, even under the land textures.

aa is at 8q and all other right hand settings in the tab are also enabled.

(forgive me, but im not in front of the computer atm to elaborate)

In the Nvidia settings i have tweaked the profile to complement the game settings aswell but these i couldnt say without bein in front of the computer.

system specs are in my sig,

paging file is 4gb min > 4gb max.

all drivers and bios are current as of this post.

Basically, the sea in DCS (and FC2) is a grand total of two polygons, with the water textures/effects applied to it.

The alternative to this solution would be to have the water "model" wrap to the coastlines, meaning that we have to cut hundreds of thousands of polygons from the terrain to stay within the polygon budget - or accept a constant FPS hit that is larger than the hit that comes from forcing the GPU's Z-buffer reject the stuff below the terrain until you are actually looking at it.

Correct me if im wrong but as far as i knew water was being textured on the whole map, even under the land textures.

This sort of depends on the exact code, which I do not know how it's done, but if I have understood DirectX right the driver itself should reject actually rendering the "subterranean water" simply through the normal Z-checks (where the GPU checks if a given surface or pixel is occluded by other things as seend from the camera, and then rejects those that it defines as hidden or out-of-view). This would sort of still cost a bit on the CPU (but not less than having all those extra polygons, since the cost on the CPU is still only two polygons and a few hooks to the textures in vRAM) since the CPU has to deliver this stuff to the GPU to be checked, but it should be "cut" before there's any texturing or such happening to the water surface that is hidden.

I hope that makes sense. I'm not an expert at that stuff so I may have misunderstood things, but there's my general understanding.
