IceFire Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 as far as I know to get the jtac to use the Infrared Laser pointer, it has to be a Type 2 or 1 engagement... Only thing I know is to set the weapon to be used in ME to a dumb bomb or a guided missile. not automatic.. then you'll get him to use the IR pointer, NOW I could be wrong about this. I've been trying to get him to use Type 3, Type 2, and Type 1 and I cant seem to figure out how to get it to do type 2 and 1 consistently, i dont know what triggers it to do so anyone ? RogueRunner Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Could you explain 'type 1', 'type 2' and 'type 3'? With the price of ammunition these days do not expect a warning shot.
Frederf Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 From Joint Pub. 3-09.3 There are three types of TAC (Types 1, 2, and 3). Type 1 control is used when the JTAC must visually acquire the attacking aircraft and the target for each attack. Type 2 control is used when the JTAC requires control of individual attacks and any or all of the conditions exist: JTAC is unable to visually acquire the attacking aircraft at weapons release, JTAC is unable to visually acquire the target, and/or the attacking aircraft is unable to acquire the mark/target prior to weapons release. Type 3 control is used when the JTAC requires the ability to provide clearance for multiple attacks within a single engagement subject to specific attack restrictions, and any or all of the conditions exist: JTAC is unable to visually acquire the attacking aircraft at weapons release; JTAC is unable to visually acquire the target; and/or the attacking aircraft is unable to acquire the mark/target prior to weapons release.
nomdeplume Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Different types refer to different amounts of control the JTAC has over the operation. There was another thread where it was explained well, but the summary was: Type 1 - JTAC maintains visual contact with both the enemy and the aircraft conducting the attack. Type 2 - JTAC maintains control of the attack, but visual on either the target and/or the aircraft isn't require (or possible) at time of weapons release. Type 3 - aircrew has autonomy to attack any targets that meet the JTAC's restrictions. I think the only thing that influences what the in-game JTAC uses is proximity of friendlies to the enemy position. Addendum: found the post I was thinking of.
