CarneyUK Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Have just read a post about rudder pedals and it got me thinking. I have the Thrustmaster T-flight HOTAS at the moment and don't have rudder pedals (use the throttle rocker).......if I get the Thrustmaster Warthog will I need rudder pedals or does it have a twist grip on the cyclic?? topdog Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 No twist grips on the TMWH, the closest it comes to having something that can be used as a rudder (and it really cannot) is the grey faux throttle friction wheel on the throttle unit, to the right of the throttles themselves. It's really not adequate though, you have to get pedals or perhaps have some other spare stick nearby to use/twist when you need it. Midwestboi Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 I found a way to use my racing wheel's clutch & throttle as rudder pedals using the Xpadder software. I simply programmed my clutch & throttle as 'left trigger' and 'right trigger'- then assigned the keyboard 'Z' and 'X' keys to them. Xpadder allows any gamepad, joystick, wheel, or other gaming device to emulate keyboard or mouse functions. So basically you can program any of your gaming device functions or buttons creating a full custom profile for use with individual games allowing complete versatility. I'm just happy to have foot-controlled rudder pedals now- even if they aren't "true" flight pedals. :-) SYSTEM: ASUS P8Z77-V // Intel i5-3570k Ivy Bridge 3.4Ghz o.c. 4.4Ghz // 8GB G.Skill Sniper DDR3 PC2133 9-11-10-28 // MSI 570GTX Twin Frozr 1.25GB PCI-E 2.0 x16 // Win7 64-bit Home Premium ~~ DISPLAY: Sanyo 42" HDTV@1900x1080 ~~ DRIVES: Intel 330 series 60G Maple Crest SSD SATA III // WD 4000AAKS 400GB SATA II // WD Scorpio (laptop drive) 320GB SATA II ~~ CASE: AZZA Hurrican 2000 Full Tower // Cooler Master 750W P.S.
CarneyUK Posted December 25, 2010 Author Posted December 25, 2010 I haven't got any pedals at the moment, so will need to get a set when I order the Thrustmaster Warthog (which I wasn't quick enough to do when Amazon had them at £199  ) Could have had Thrustmaster Warthog and pedals for £300!! "The sky is not the limit.....it's my playground!!" @paraglidecass

topdog Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 Z and X have built-in trimmer resetting for the axis (meaning, your hud will show you trimmed north, but if you use Z to face west, your heli will now hold you west but the diamond in hud is still stuck north). I find this a bit of an irritation, though it won't affect or modify your pitch/bank trimming, only the heading. Similar behaviour exists in the cursor keys for adjusting pitch and bank, but they have limiters on them as to how far they will adjust and lock the trim to (it's around 50% of the movement range).
