JCook Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 (edited) Problem 1: Attempting Tutorial two - Takeoff. Once airborne there is a strong right turning tendancy in the stick - its all I can do to fly straight. If I let go of the stick I'm in an immediate hard right bank. Looking at the axis in the options menu I see that my roll axis (ailerons) is to the right of center. None of deadzone or other options is enough to cancel out this right alignment. I'd know how to fix this in MS flight sim - though it was never a problem there. How can I 're-center' the X65F joystick so the A10 understands where center stick is? Problem 2: Assigning controller axis is pretty confusing...here is what I have. These assignments were derived by actuating the controller axis; these are the definitions the A10 came up with. CH Rudder Pedals Rudder = Joy_Slider1 Left Brake = Joy_X Right Brake = Joy_Y Saitek X65F HOTAS Pitch (Elevator) = Joy_Y Roll (Aileron) = Joy_X Throttle Left = Joy_Z Throttle Right = Joy_Slider1 This looks to me like several controller axis are sharing the same definition - this is a conflict right? Does the software know the difference between X65F (Joy_Y) and CH Pedals (Joy_Y) or does it think this is the same axis assigned twice. And it can tell them apart the config screen should show that in the options...IMO. I've not installed or configured with the Saitek utility. Maybe I need to calibrate with that utility? Anyone have any experience with the A10 & X65F configuring? Right now its not flyable - can anyone help? Thanks - with your continued help I'll eventually fly this thing. So far flying real aircraft is a lot easier :music_whistling: John Edited January 3, 2011 by JCook Added another problem
Le0kong Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 You can use the Saitek Control Panel to set asymmetrical dead zones that will change the center of the stick and work sort-of like a calibration. One side effect is that it will require more force to roll to one side than the other. But if is too much and the stick is new i recommend talking to Saitek to get a new one. Here is a example on the X axis: AMD Athlon II X2 240 2.8@3360 MHz | MB Asus M4A78-EM | 4GB DDR2-800 Kingston | XFX HD 5770 @850-900/1200-1300 | 500G Samsung HD502HI | Case CM 335 | CM-EPP 460W | Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit) | Saitek X65F | Freetrack(Wii Remote) | LG 23' W2353V
Pogo Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 All I can suggest is that once in-game, you bring up the axis display box using RCTRL + ENTER. This will show what your controller axis' are doing. Then use the Aileron trim to centre your aileron control. Keep in mind that even if your ailerons are perfectly centred, you may still experience some roll effect due to asymmetric load-outs and wind. If this happens continue to trim as required. JCook Posted January 3, 2011 Author Posted January 3, 2011 I've had the X65F for several months so I don't think I'm going to send it back. I'm not convinced there is a problem with the hardware. The roll and pitch axis' work flawlessly in MS FS9 / FSX simulators. I use it to fly the Dodosim B206 helicopter and the Vertical Reality Simulations FA18 Super Hornet. NO PROBLEMS at all. I can set the stick where I want it and let go and it will hold steady. I'll try looking at the axis box while in the cockpit as suggested. I don't think aileron trim is going to work for me though. I've got to have the software seeing the stick as centered. Any other ideas? I really want to fly this thing. Thanks for your help. John
Le0kong Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 First you said "I'd know how to fix this in MS flight sim", which means the problem is not exclusive with DCS but with the stick/driver part, but now you said it was perfect in MSFS. Look on the Saitek Control Panel, in the "Test Stick" tab see if the cross-hair stays in the middle, if not then you need do do what i said or try the calibration method said in another topic. On the 'Problem 2', you don't need to know/select the axis name, just click on the line with the axis you want assign(ex: Pitch) and the column of the appropriate hardware(ex:"Saitek X65F") click add and on the window that appears move the stick back and forth, click ok. JCook Posted January 3, 2011 Author Posted January 3, 2011 Okay - the X65F works perfectly in MS FS9/FSX just as I said. However since I use FSUIPC to configure and calibrate the controllers, if I did see this behavior I could resolve it easily in FSUIPC. Sorry for the confusion. I believe you're right about the assignments in problem two - they seem to be working alright now. I looked at the axis display box while in an actual flight and the controllers seemed centered. On this flight I did not experience the heavy pull to the right - perhaps that initial problem has (somehow) been fixed. Right now all the contollers axis appear to be working as expected. Not sure what changed. But thanks for your help. John
Dr_Evil Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Problem 1: I had a similar experience. I was doing one of the weapons employment tutorials, and I noticed a distinct tendency to yaw to the left all the way down the runway and as I took off, and everything I did was ineffective in canceling it out. I started to connect different devices to see if there was a problem with my joystick. Still there. Connected a different joystick. Still there. Maybe it's an uncommanded keyboard input. Different keyboard. Still there. No keyboard. Still there. Okay, it's a system problem. Reformat. Still there. Different OS! Still there. I'm pretty exasperated by this point. I share all this with my girlfriend, who doesn't like computers, HATES video games, and knows nothing about flying. As I finish, and sit there, sullenly, she says "you said it was almost like a crosswind. Is it a crosswind?" :noexpression:  So, I get up, fire up the mission, take off, and fly low and slow down the runway in the opposite direction... :noexpression:  Right yaw. *$#@ me. Are you sure it isn't a crosswind? :D
Le0kong Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Another thing i forgot to mention is to clear the axis that you didn't assign you self, ex: see if in the 'Roll' axis line there no other axis assigned other then the X65F 'X axis'. AMD Athlon II X2 240 2.8@3360 MHz | MB Asus M4A78-EM | 4GB DDR2-800 Kingston | XFX HD 5770 @850-900/1200-1300 | 500G Samsung HD502HI | Case CM 335 | CM-EPP 460W | Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit) | Saitek X65F | Freetrack(Wii Remote) | LG 23' W2353V
RogueRunner Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 There is a thread here somewhere on howto reset the X65F's axis. The bottom line is to remove the joystick while the throttle is still connected to the computer and then replug it. That seems to reset the calibration. With the price of ammunition these days do not expect a warning shot.
hollywoody Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 here are some beta drivers with the centering calibration tab included. not sure how and if they will work but check it out. located at bottom of 2nd page. http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3146091/2.html [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] http://WWW.VFA-113.COM ________________________ Win 8.1 i5-3570 3.4ghz-Trackir5-TM Warthog - Pro-Saitek Combat Rudders-Viso 43" 4k"
