Greetings,

I have noticed that when an aricraft is hit by a missile, just before the explosion there is a very small, but very annoying, freeze of the game. I think that this freeze corresponds to the loading of the explosion effect, in fact I notice it only at the first explosion of the mission. I wish to know if there is a mod or some kind of trick to eliminate this problem (perhaps forcing the sim to load the effects at mission startup?).

Thanks.

P.s.: with the 1.02 version, i solved the problem by renaming all the files in bazar/effects/rendereffects/shaders, but it doesn't seem to work with 1.1

Just a thought! have you tried to create a Ram Disk, copy the effects folder to it, then edit the graphics config so it points to the folder in th Ramdisk?

this should boost access, load times.

Thanks for the tip but... how can I create a ramdisk???

And this trick must be done every time I play Lomac?

Not every time you play lomac. However, you need to copy the directory every time you reboot your PC.Some Ramdisk utilities do this copying automatically.

google for free Ramdisk utilitis. The ones i know are payware. the free one that comes with windows is limited in size, not sure if it would accomodate the effects folder.

Uhm, i dont think, ramdisk will speed up your lomac on a laptop. I even use a laptop to play and try everything to speed it up. The biggest bottleneck is the harddrive. 2,5''-HDs are slower than the 3,5. If use a ramdisk, win still writes data to the pagefile. Some users tell me, that a ramdrive can slow down your system a little bit on playing games cause the used ram isnt free for the big textures and other datas from the game.

Keep ur hd defragmented, defrag ur registry to, that speed up ur system a little bit. Use newest graphic-drivers (there r some special-drivers for laptops with more features as the one from the manufacturer of ur laptop)

For the time in-game turn off ur virus-scanner. Often the scanner searches every file for virus and the access slows down.

But the best is, to set the effects to minimum, i think.

I only tried if the ramdisk software worked on my laptop, because I was at work, and my game-PC is at home :)

I have tried to make a ramdisk big enough for the effects folder, but haven't succeeded so far.

For some reason I can't get it bigger than 32MB, while the effects folder is about 56MB.

It's a bit strange though because I choose the biggest possible option, 65536000, which should be 64MB.

I'll look into this further when I can, because it might be a big improvement on machines with lots of RAM.

Check your hardware acceleration for your soundcard. Set the accel to normal or none. Also check for updated drivers. SB has some fantastic new beta drivers that work great! They stop the AWACS stutter in LOMAC.
