On the starboard side of the aircraft their is a black "nose" on the front of the airframe that houses the landing wheel. The port side is not black. Is there some signigficance? Possibly some instrumentation on the starboard side?

Thanks

It's the IFF receiver. Briefly mentioned in the flight manual on page 44:

The two main gears are partially covered by the wells and the gear retract forward into them. The forward end of the left wheel well housing contains the single point refueling receptacle. The corresponding right wheel well end is colored black and houses the IFF receiver.

But IFF isn't modeled in-game.

It seems that both contain some equipment but the black painting on the right hand side suggests a dielectric cover usually covering some antenna

That on the left (aircraft left...not yours ;) )is the refueling point and refueling panel

The radome on the right main landing gear pod is for the glideslope antenna.

The picture of the left gear pod shows the single-point pressure refueling panel and receptacle.
