Kirin Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Greetings aces I am on the verge to buy an Archos 101 Android tablet. I will use it mainly to have a mobile PDF reader so I always have the manual, charts, etc. ready at my hands. Seeing all those input apps like Touch IR and Keypad Pro for the IPad popping up made me wish for a similar application for Android tablets! I've been an avid Touchbuddy user for some time but having a mobile independant device seems the way to go. Of course a Touchbuddy port to Android would also be great. So does anybody know of such an application on Android? (No, I won't get an IPad - for monetary and ideologic reasons... :P)
JaseGill Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 I was wondering the same. I have done some C# and VB.NET development so wondered how hard it could be? j. Pendra Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 (edited) I've just added Android support for my control app. It is very much like touchbuddy, but somewhat simpler to use and set up. It also has advanced features like auto mapping of buttons of any shape and such. It has complete, 2 way networking support (LAN, WiFi or even internet), too. I'm still adding functionality and preparing an iOS version of it. If you have ideas for features, just let me know. Pendra Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Unofrtunately, a lot of things can go wrong. - Firewall: The firewall has to be configured to allow the port you specified through. - IP settings: Your IP may be different than the IP the YHTK server shows due to router settings. One of my comp displays a real IP even thou it is connecting through a router. The router's DHCP does list it as a client. So if I put in the IP from the router, I can connect. Weird. - Port: Port forwarding can cause problems. I'm in the middle of re-doing the whole client business and replacing it with an universal one that can be used on Android/iPad/WinMobile7/PC/Linux etc. Just a few days.
Kirin Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 Sounds good Pendra. I got a TMD 8" MID (aka Herotab 816) otw from China. Looking forward to try your App.
Kirin Posted January 29, 2011 Author Posted January 29, 2011 Hey Pendra I received my Tablet (TMD 816 MID, Cortex A8, Android 2.2) yesterday and wanted to try out YHTK. I transfered the APK file to the tablet and ran the server on the PC. Now when I run YHTK on the tablet it will 'FORCE CLOSE'. Do you have any advice how to get it running? Kirin out
Kirin Posted January 29, 2011 Author Posted January 29, 2011 Alright. I got one step further. I noticed that 'FORCE CLOSE' only appears when the server is not running correctly. But I am still puzzled how to get a profile running on the tablet. What I tried so far: - start YHTK on PC - load profile 'keyboard 3" on PC - start server on PC - load YHTK on Android tablet - enter IP and port - start Now I get following: - the tablet display is blank, showing IP and port on the upper left corner - when I touch anywhere on the tablet it shows some kind of coordinates in the upper left corner My questions: - How do I load a profile on the tablet? - Do I have to load the profile on the PC as well? Help is appreciated.
Kirin Posted February 3, 2011 Author Posted February 3, 2011 Bumping up - hopefully to Pendras attention...
Yskonyn Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Wow this is rather cool! Will this also work for getting your Android based Smartphone to be a touch interface for games/sims? Kirin Posted February 4, 2011 Author Posted February 4, 2011 I guess so. Android is Android. But I haven't got further than what I posted.

Kirin Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 Hmm, Pendra might be busy working on the new version. Holding my breath. Distracted anyways with the MFD Cougar project... :)
Kirin Posted February 17, 2011 Author Posted February 17, 2011 Alright - the MFD project has been completed. Back onto the Android tablet. --- More out of chance than anything else I stumbled about a kind of follow-up project of Touchbuddy called TouchDown. It's merits are a cross-platform compatibility - it basically works on any device which can access a webserver. I haven't tried it yet but it looks promising and I would like to point the communitys attention to it. More infos here: http://desrat.lightning-bolt.net/TouchDown/index.php Kirin out
Yskonyn Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Been playing around with TouchDown as well as YHTK, but I was unsuccessful with either to get things working normally so far. It would be so nice to be able to use the Phone to control certain cockpit controls. boarder2 Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I don't own an android phone to test on. As of right now there are some ideas I have floating around for the iPhone. If I get time to put those ideas into an app and its well received, its possible that I would try to port to smaller android devices. iControl DCS/DCS Virtual Cockpit - Full featured iPad Cockpit - Now with Android support!
