redeye00 Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 (edited) Hi everyone, really enjoying getting to grips with this great simulation. However i have a few things i need a little help with. My approach to a sim like this is get used to flying the plane before i even touch on the weapons systems. So start up, take off, navigation, landing and shutdown are what iam concentrating on at the moment. I should just say that i use track ir5 and a saitek X52 Hotas. Problem 1. Radio setup, I cant seem to get a good view of the radio stack to tune etc. With track IR just looking left doesent really work beacuse you are effectivley looking at the left side of the cockpit side on, not top down. The snap views arent to much help either because, 1 there is no snap view for the radio stack and 2 there dosent seem to be a snap view "lock", thats to say you have to keep your shortcut key pressed down whilst imputing radio freq's and flying the aircraft! In microsoft FSX there are usually key shortcuts that effectivley bring up a panel in a new window zoomed in so inputting of flightplans etc is quite straight forward. So my question is how do you handle the radio when flying and how do you "look" at it? Problem 2 Iam finding reading the HUD dificult in normal view as the text is very small (maybe i got to have my eyes tested again) also it seems any information is off centre and dropping off the bottom of the hud. Not really a problem 3 As I said iam just doing the basics at the moment and would like to have some training missions to fly, circuit training, cross country navigation, ILS etc. Has anyone built some in the mission builder, preferbly in Nevada, if you can that is. I know these are minor niggles but any help would be gladly received. Cheers Mark aka redeye00 from the UK:smilewink: PS do any of you using the saitek X52 use the 3 "mode" switch on the stick for anything? Edited January 18, 2011 by redeye00
Tone71 Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 First of all, welcome, second of all, get yourself access to the Beta forum, loads of help available there. Problem 1: Using the 6DOF of TrackIR, I tend to look down first, then shift my view left, before rotating slightly (if need be); I have adjusted x and y movement (as opposed to rotation) to be slightly more sensitive. Try that. Problem 2: Covered in Beta forum (where I believe this thread will be moved soon); you'll need to use the view zoom keys (physically moving forward with TrackIR won't work). Problem 3: Check in-game training and again, Beta forums. Also, Nevada isn't available yet (was removed in Beta 3). Hope that helps. Tone (also from UK). bartleby Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 For your second problem, yeah, that's been discussed a bit (thread here in the beta forum). Apparently the text sizes are that way in the actual jet. You can use zoom to make them larger, though. I changed trackir z axis to zoom, seems to work alright. DCS Wiki! :book:
