barra733 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 When I cage the SHKVAL I use 'Target Mode Reset' (mapped onto my joystick), but this also turns off the Ground Moving Traget (GMT) and Auto Turn to Target (ATT) buttons. Is there any way to cage the SHKVAL without disabling these buttons? (PS, I've reset all my keystrokes so please give 'directions' to the button..!)

I don't think there is, because (sub)system resets tend to initialize everything. But then, where's the harm in them getting disabled? Just turn them back on when needed again - although stuff like that IS indeed easy to forget in a hurry, true... The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.

You could also try to put the Shkval in gunsight mode which centers the Shkval until you put it back in normal mode. I haven't tried this myself and I'm unsure if it does what you need but just had the idea. Henchman14 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Well, GMT and Turn on Target only work with the shkval ( because you need a target ). If you are using the Helmet Mounted Sight, hitting designate ( O button ) will center the shkval at whatever the sight is hovering over. I think it will do the same without the HMS active. Without the shkval, and only laser on, everything is just a range ( no actual target ), so GMT and TOT don't really work. Gunsight considers any target to be at 1000m and adjusts for such. The shkval just acts as a TV monitor looking down the center of the aircraft in this mode (boresighted).

When slaving the SHKVAL to get it to slew on to a datalink point you have to 'cage' the SHKVAL. As I'm usually in the vicinity of the bad guys I find it a pain to have to close down part of my targetting system. I guess I'll just have to live with it. Thanks guys for the answers.
