I am trying to understand why there is not a robust Third Party terrain market for DCS as we see with the MDFS series.

I see that ED has made tools available at the wiki for land development; is there any reason why a entrepreneur could not develop payware scenery for Afghanistan, Chechnya, Iran or Iraq/North Korea?

Perhaps I am misunderstanding how terrain add-ons would work but wouldnt they be installs via Modman and required checks by Servman to ensure terrains are shared online?

Is this in the realm of possibilities but simply not marketed or is there a barrier to this I don't see at this point? I would assume many of us would gladly move beyond the borders of Georgia for a decent price. Perhaps ED could use it as a an interim revenue booster by releasing payware terrains.

Thanks all.

I cant wait to. I think I'm looking forward to them releasing the Nevada terrain more than the Sim going gold. I'd be very happy to pay for some more terrains also.

i wouldn't pay for another theater unless it looked really different from the current map. we got mountains, cities, fields, rivers, valleys, coastlines, sea, islands. what else would you like? desert? jungle?

the Sim going gold

Awh, I get nostalgic when people still refer to it as "going gold". The digital delivery era can change a lot, but some things persist. :)

yes and yes to desert and jungle - i stumbled across Batou's work today on Afghanistan and it looks very very promising. I really do hope he charges for it for the amount of work he has put in.

That said - the reason I seek new terrain is for the scenario building. Immersion is everything to me and the ability to build campaigns and PvP missions around real-world scenarios is appealing.

Also when you fly online quite a bit, you actually can get a little punch drink from the redundant terrain. New Maps are always welcome

Also - is there any reason why the Lomac Crimea can't be offered up to an ambitious fellow for FC2 compatability? I would think the terrain elevation data, meshes, etc would all be there - what would be the barrier for FC2 compatability? Would it require a "ground up " rebuild similar to what Batou is doing?
