HI!

I'm bit unsure what i should upgrade, limited budget so i can't get whole system upgraded now.

DCS-10 runs about avg.21-25fps on ground/airfield and avg.29-40 fps in air. (In cockpit, High settings, expt.water low and civ traffic low)

My current system:

E8400 oc 3,8ghz

Crossair 4g DDR2 800mhz

Asus 5770 1g

Asus 24" 1920x1080

WIN7 64bit

Would SSD drive or new GPU (6850 or 6870) be better? or new mobo and cpu ??

Oculus CV1, Odyssey, Pimax 5k+ (i5 8400, 24gb ddr4 3000mhz, 1080Ti OC )

Could you give a rough estimate of the budget? That does influence the recommendation.

I'd probably go for new CPU/Mobo but you'd then need new RAM also and that will be over your budget... you can upgrade the video card any time later

No longer active in DCS...

If i go amd cpu and mobo, my budget may be enough but i like to stay intel if possible

Hm. Yeah. I'm not sure how far you'd be able to get with that budget. Pretty much any worthwhile CPU change would require new mobo and new RAM, and it isn't easy to find quality components that would squeeze all that into that budget.

Maybe it's better to buy ssd hardrive or GPU , i can use those later when i upgrade rest of my system.

I have almost the same spec and have that upgrade itch. I would recommend a SSD as it just makes everything feel snappier in Win (and help map load times etc). A 128MB is fine for my system.

One thing that really slows the frame rates down for me is when I do a low pass over tanks/vehicles etc. I'm probably going for a HD6950 as the next thing. I do not have enought $$$ for a new CPU, MB, RAM & OS at the moment. Also waiting for Sandybridge issues to be sorted out before I think about a new MB. Plus think a high end graphics card can be reused if I upgrade the whole system at the end of the year.

How about something like this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-065-OE&groupid=43&catid=1917&subcat= ?

Personally I'd get a GTX 560ti, the 1000mhz factory ocerclocked one from Gigabyte. Then Get the rest when you can afford it. Your CPU seems pretty fast as it is.

An SSD is great, but I honestly can't see much difference while ingame. It certainly loads everything faster though.

I would go with an SSD hands down. It not only improves in game FPS (no stutter from loading scenery) but improves EVERYTHING else in Windows as well. Load times are faster, no more defragging, quick boot times. I saw a 30-40% increase in performance when I upgraded.

Agree completely with you about the SSD. I have a couple in my comp and they do help with loading times and making things snappier. But if I was drawing up a list of upgrades to improve ingame performance, an SSD would be near the bottom of the list. I've not noticed that much (if any) improvement in my flight sims. And they are still too darn expenxive and unreliable for someone with a limited budget for their upgrade.

Better to take a little extra time, save some money, get a decent CPU + Motherboard and then build the new system up around that.
