apoll Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Hi. Sorry if these are dopey, but I'll be a monkey's uncle if I can figure them out. So I thought I would ask this jelpful forum! 1) Making new waypoints/flt plans. Ok, I've read the manual several times and still can't get this. I'm fine to the bit where it says to insert the lat/long of the new waypoint in the UDC: where can one get the lat/long of a point on the ground you want to set the new waypoint at? I thought the TAD and the slewable cross...but apparently the cross can slew by it doesn't reveal the lat/long of the point under it. Is this right? Am I doing something stupid? How can I find out the lat/long of a spot in the cockpit? I take it the only way to make new waypoints is to input numeric data: one can't use the map in TAD to set a new waypoint? 2) Coms with wingmen. Ok...I set up a mission (instant or otherwise) and look for the flight frequency in the briefing before the flight: unless I'm blind, it is not there. How can I find out what frequency my flight and wingman are on?? While I'm on coms, I'm not sure I'm doing the preset right: don't mee to be able to store presets in the radio...is there an obvious trick to it? 3) Finally, no map showing when I use EXP modes with China Hat switch. I'm using the TAD map..use the china hat switch on my warthog throttle to give me EXP 1/2...but surprise, surprise, when I do that, there is NO MAP...just black with the green symbols on the MFCD. Switch out of the EXP modes and the map comes back. I'm sure I used it the other day and it had a map displayed in the EXP modes. What am I doing wrong? Any ideas? Thanks for your patience and I hope you can give me a steer on these things. Thanks in anticipation. apoll out
kingneptune117 Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 1. If you want to make a new waypoint using the TAD, just hook a point on the TAD, make it SPI, and press TMS right short. Now switch the knob on the right panel to "mark", your new waypoing will be called "A". As long as you have an SPI, you can make it a "mark" point, so to speak. 2. not sure, sorry 3. That is because when you zoom in to far there is no map (im guessing because of the resolution or something). When you zoom out you should see the textured map. apoll Posted February 24, 2011 Author Posted February 24, 2011 King Neptune. Thanks. But I thought you can't hook a popint on the ground with TAD? Had to be a symbol or spot already notated. If I want to put a waypoint 100nm from my current position, where there are NO symbols, how do I find the lat/long of that spot using TAD (or anything else)? thanks. apoll
Geskes Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 1. It is not necessary to hook something on the TAD to make a markpoint. You can just hit tms right short and the point under the TAD cursor will be where the mark will be created. Then to create a flightplan of the created marks just go into the FPBUILD and hit the letters of the mark (A,B,C, etc) and the CDU will find them. Hit the buttons on the left to insert them in the plan. When you do have something hooked you can just hit the OSB which reads a number with questionmark eg "7?" to create a waypoint from it. To put those in a plan hit the number and it will find them. 2. You will default to UHF 251. Make sure you also activate the right radio. (MIC SWITCH DOWN for UHF). In the editor you can see the frequencies for units on the right side of the screen where it says COMM. There you can also input other freqs if you want to. OFFSET only allows calculations from a known point (waypoint or markpoint) so to do it from present position you'd need to create a markpoint at your position using the TAD, then go to OFFSET page and enter bearing/distance from that markpoint - once done it will give you the lat / long, which you can then copy to create a new waypoint from the data using R7 (pg 241 manual).
