The tutorial has been going well up until the AN/AAQ-28 training. After slewing up, down, and sideways and changing to the little square on the hud I use cntr. + up arrow to get the tail indicator added and then patiently wait for more instructions. And nada. Nothing. I have now run thru this exercise a half dozen times with same result. Is this a bug?

And, where is the autopilot button. Searched in vain after inadvertantly hitting the wrong button on a few occasions. Help!

It would be easier to help if you could submit a track of your flight. Otherwise it's hard to know exactly what point in the mission you're having problems with. To save a track, open the mission through the mission editor and hit Save Track from the debriefing screen after exiting the mission.

From the sound of it, you are getting stuck at the point when the instructor asks you to slew the pod around. He then asks you engage POINT tracking mode. This is done with a short press of the LCTRL+UP command. However it seems like you are pressing the long LCTRL+UP command, which designates the TGP point as a SPI and this is not the expected command at that time.

The mission is the weapons system training mission. And, yes, you have it right as to exactly where this is happening to me. And I was unaware that there would be a difference in the length of time pressed on the key sets. Gads! Complicated! And, in my sucessive trys, I have held the keys down to see if anything elso changes. I'll try again. Thanks.

U can turn on/off autopilot with key 'a'., and you can change modes on 2, 3, 4 keys (NOT NUMPAD).

Wonder why I can't find that under commands?

Yes, many of the HOTAS commands have different functions depending on whether they are pressed-released (short command) or held down for a few moments (long command). In the training missions, the instructor always specifies when you need to input a long command. Otherwise the command is short. However, in this particular case, because it was seen as a possible moment of confusion, he specifically asks for a short command. :)

I did finally get by this problem but now am stuck on Pricision Guided Munitions where I get to actually locking the target pressing control/up arrow and don't get a lock. Then, of course, my tutor fades back into the either. And I start all over again.

Again, somewhat guessing as to the part of the mission you're having trouble with, but I suspect you may need to turn more toward the targets to get a more staight-on angle on it before the TGP can enter POINT tracking mode. I believe the instructor points this out in the lesson. Also, as before, we have to differentiate which command is required - short LCTRL+UP to enter AREA/POINT tracking mode or long LCTRL+UP to designate a SPI. I believe you are at the former step, but not sure.

It actually says to set waypoint 4 which is inline with the target but I keep going straight, on autopilot. I will steer myself that way. But, having given up on that one for a while, I went back to the Maverick Tutorial and actually, finally nailed the first tank. Unfortunately the next instruction for this one is to come around, fly out over the water for a few miles and set up for the next Mav. As I peel off the seeker head stays on target and swings to its gimbal limit. And nothing I do works from there. Guess I'll just try, try again.

I checked the Mav mission just to be sure and there is nothing that should be preventing you from proceeding after hitting the first target. The remaining instructions are based only on time. Once again, I think it would be easier to help you if you could submit a track of your flight.
