Making the game more appealing when not in cockpit

I mean adding elements to the mission briefing and debriefing that add to the immersion. Just what info is shown to the player and how it is shown. Making it more appealing as a game and also as a simulator.

For example adding stuff for the briefings - intel photos, map of the battlefield with friendly troops and known enemy locations, plans how to best excecute the mission. Anything to make it less "sterile". Also, adding the option to choose the payload from the briefing would be great - its bit dull to do it thru the mission planner.

With campaigns things could be made to improve so that it feels like a campaign that is progressing - not just single missions in a row. Just that you could check your statistics, look how the battlefield is changing, have a limited inventory of planes and weapons that you could keep track of and so on. And why does when i finish a campaign mission it always goes back to the campaign menu showing the available campaigns - that just makes it feel even more like single missions. It would be way better if you would have a separate campaign screen where you could check all the statistics and stuff i mentioned above, maybe a view of your a-10 on the runway - and from there i could start the next mission. Its just little things but somehow still important.

Also the debriefings. Many "problems" arent because the info is not there but just how it is represented. I mean the debrief info is very throrough but it just leaves you cold in every way. I mean im not really interested what another flight on the other side of the map achieved but seeing T-72 tank silhouettes painted on the side of my plane after a succesfull mission would get me wanting to continue the campaign. Yeah, i know, might not be realistic but just to get the idea. it could just show your kills and some main points what happened in the battlefield - and if you would want you could delve deeper into the course of the mission and get the info you are getting now. The style of the debriefing is bit too much "excel" for my taste right now.

These kind of things aren't probably the main priority (or not a priority at all) as i understand its a highly realistic simulator first and foremost. And as a simulator its like nothing else. But adding elements such as i mentioned above I think would add greatly to the experience - making it feel more coherent and believable also when not in the cockpit. Never played - but from what I've heard - Jane's simulators used to excel in that kind of immersion, combining great game and simulator. So that might be something to look into.

I guess this could be achieved with GUI mod. I really like how debriefs were done in Dawn of War 2 after each mission, showing off what you have achieved during the mission. You mean something like that?

Haven't played Dawn of War 2 - so can't really tell whats it like. But if it had good debriefs then yes :)

I agree. I'm normally O.k with more simple mission debriefs but when it gets complicated like when I made a mission about attacking Guadata airbase and I was shot down. I couldn't work out what hit me and it took me ages to go through the debrief and find the one line I wanted. If they just simplified bits. I'm not interested in every time a M4 hit a BTR before it was destroyed or when I fire a missile. If they showed Unit dead. Unit land. Unit takeoff and a few other basics it would really help.

Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

You can filter the debrief. Can't remember which field exactly, but set it to your pilot and you'll only see stuff relevant to you.

I would like to see an external view similar to that in FSX.

Unless I missed it ... I am new to this sim.
