GAI= Ground Alert Intercept -like stby, ready to go and attack on request, usually from the ramp. A bit like a QRA ac but in a ground attack role.

AFAC = Airbourne Forward Air Controller - controls ac around hostile areas and calls in close air support attacks on the enemy positions. Is positioned inside an ac and flies about calling in attacks. As opposed to a JTAC, which is usually from a ground based platform.

Thanks,

So If I set AI to GAI they should only take off when I'm in range right?

And AFAC would be a role of an awac?

No, AWACS is the role of the AWACS. ;) AFAC is like a JTAC, only it's airborne: it directs aircraft to attack specific ground targets. Since AI aircraft don't utilise AFAC/JTAC, it's only useful if you want the player to check in with them and receive targets to prosecute from the AI JTAC/FAC script.

You can try playing around with GAI, but it's been pretty broken for as long as I can remember (BS, FC2), and I don't see any particular reason it would've been a focus of the A-10C module's development.

Edit: the tasks are described quite well in the GUI manual (not the Flight manual), starting on page 106.
