TAIPAN_ Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Hi All, What's the correct way to contact AFAC? In the Serpent's head mission after destroying the camp, it says to contact AFAC on 131 for targeting information.. So I set the top radio (AM) to 131, then try the mic switch to the JTAC option but there are no options. I leave the radio switch on MAN. How do I contact the AFAC in this mission? Is it not JTAC? Is it a flight? Cheers Pimax Crystal VR & Simpit User | Ryzen CPU & Nvidia RTX GPU | Some of my mods
TAIPAN_ Posted March 14, 2011 Author Posted March 14, 2011 Actually I think I forgot to press the "load" button after setting the frequency :) Pimax Crystal VR & Simpit User | Ryzen CPU & Nvidia RTX GPU | Some of my mods
EinsteinEP Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Actually I think I forgot to press the "load" button after setting the frequency :)The load button stores the current frequency to the selected preset. It's not required to use in manual mode. Shoot to Kill. Play to Have Fun.

sascha77 Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 I've played it last night and even managed to kill my assigned targets, only to crash into a mountain top in the heavy clouds on my way home... IIRC, there's no AFAC in the mission, just a Spec-Ops soldier on the ground. And in this mission, he'll contact you on his own once you've reached a certain position. So there's no need to use standard JTAC. I guess you could call it "story-driven"-comms ... Kinda like the JTAC-comms in "Surrounded" .. he'll tell you about targets as soon as you're in the air in that mission, but when you try and contact him yourself through the JTAC-menu, he'll just tell you that there's no further tasking available ... Note: I'm using easy comms, so YMMV
TAIPAN_ Posted March 14, 2011 Author Posted March 14, 2011 Yeah he was contacting me at the start, saying various things etc and I did destroy the camp which was confirmed. However a message came that someone was escaping in a vehicle and would drive west - contact AFAC for targeting. He didn't say anything else for so long that a mig came and shot me down. I avoided and tried to get aim-9 on him but he got me :) Very strange too because I don't know of any chopper in the mission, only the eyeball vehicle. For the mountains anything near WP 1-4 I just flew above the clouds, always a bit scary when you have to duck down through them again but I hugged the flight path. Nate--IRL-- Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 The Mission uses scripting and the standard ground Jtac or "FAC" (Forward Air Controller). The Jtac on 131 is the standard DCS Jtac, he SHOULD give targeting for the Commanders Jeep and the Mobile Comms Centre. You see I dropped CBU-105 first to take out any chance of AAA or MANPADs at the site, however this triggered the success messages coming up - but the bunker was still standing. I never dropped my big ass bombs on the bunker, as all talk was now about this vehicle I was frantically trying to find that and was told to contact FAC for targetting. I'll try and kill the bunker next time first and then come back with the CBU :) Pimax Crystal VR & Simpit User | Ryzen CPU & Nvidia RTX GPU | Some of my mods
Nate--IRL-- Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 (edited) Yeah that's ok, you attack the command post and the commander flees the area, you have to find him :) the Jtac on the radio menu can help, but the target is moving. EDIT:- Outlaw 6 does ask for a precision GBU-38 attack on the yellow smoke. You probably broke the script :) Nate Edited March 16, 2011 by Nate--IRL-- Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
