dne48 Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 (edited) As in the last mission and friendly competition, I'll be giving away the following softcover book for free. The book is the Fairchild A-10 Thunderbolt II Pilot's Flight Operations Instructions. It will only be available to those in the continental USA and Canada, because of the cost of shipping. I would like to encourage those from other countries to give it a try. It is a simple mission in that it is you alone. I don't have the expertise at this time to create a mission with JTAC and other aircraft and etc. This friendly competition will be in affect through the last day of April. Prior to that end you will have to submit two screenshots such as the ones shown 1. One screenshot shows how many targets you have destroyed and the time that it took. Make note at this time that your goal is to destroy as many targets as you can with the load of ordinance included in the mission. If there is a tie ( that is two players destroyed 23 targets each- then the one with the quickest time will be the winner). If per chance that the time is tied (unlikely) I will flip a coin or something like that. 2. The second screenshot will need to show that you landed safely and that the mission ended. See screenshot. There are 29 targets. Disregard the start time on the screenshot attached. The final mission starts at 1930 hours so we have a little setting sun. Check the mission planner for additional information and have fun. Do send in a screenshot now and then. Also-- you are authorized to use labels in this mission.. It's going to be hard enough without them. If you have trouble taking a screenshot your mission end- check out the free Snapper freeware or other screenshot programs. dne48 Posted April 2, 2011 Author Posted April 2, 2011 Just bumping this up so you newbies have a chance at this free book should you desire. Clear skies. Thanks 1 "To most people, the sky is the limit. To those who love aviation, the sky is home."-----anonymous
Rider1 Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Got all 29 in 45 minutes. No speed records here. :joystick: Unfortunately, I missed the part in the rules about having to land. I exited the mission and DQ'd myself.:poster_oops: Here's the screen cap anyway.
dne48 Posted April 6, 2011 Author Posted April 6, 2011 Hope you give it another go Rider1. Thanks for participating "To most people, the sky is the limit. To those who love aviation, the sky is home."-----anonymous
Threshor Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Well I gave it a go. I lost an engine half way through (from the manpad) and fought the second half on one engine. I put the fire out, shut the engine off, then the other engine to max and trimmed and pressed on. A smart pilot would have returned to base. :music_whistling: A bit sluggish lining up to fire guns and dropping cbu's and the landing was a slight challenge but we made it. Thanks for creating another fun mission. Your other book was a very enjoyable read. :book::thumbup: Win7 64bit/i7-5930K@4.2/HYPERX32GBDDR4@2800/ASUSX99PRO/2GTX980ti6GB/ZALMAN9900/TIR5/3CH+Saitekpedals/500GBSSD+3THD/3x28"Hanns-G5760x1200:pilotfly:
dne48 Posted April 20, 2011 Author Posted April 20, 2011 Did you make it back to the original base Threshor? Unless someone beats your time, the book is yours, but if someone else completes the mission and sends me the screenshot that confirms landing back at base, I'll have to award it to that person. *See #2 in my original post. Your time is very, very good. EDIT: My mistake, Threshor. A closer look at your screen shot shows you returned as required. Oh well, now maybe you'll get some competition or the book will be yours for sure. Thanks much "To most people, the sky is the limit. To those who love aviation, the sky is home."-----anonymous

Rider1 Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 (edited) 26:45 29/29 Took me 3 attempts just to make it through without my wings falling off. :joystick::( I was flying pretty aggressive I guess. I though I was done so I started back to base and I noticed one vehicle had survived from the first group I attacked. No problem, still had a mav so I flew towards it and as I was setting up a shot, I looked left and noticed 4 red dots of in the distance. Crap! I forgot them. Finished off the survivor of group one, and then trucked back across the battlefield towards the remaining 4. All I had left were rockets and guns, and I was sure hoping that wasn't 4 tanks sitting out there... Got lucky as it was some trucks and some light armor. I tried to get everything all lined up and set up for a one strafe pass, haul ass, but it didn't quite go as planned. I ended up having to make 3 more passes because I was getting pretty anxious at this point.. Cleared all those targets and turned towards home. I jettisoned everything I had left to try and lighten the load a bit and floored it. My landing was hit the brakes, flaps, cut throttle to idle all at the same time and boy did I hit that runway hot. I thought I would probably be doing some off roading, but I manged to stay on the runway and get it stopped.. I may have blown a tire though. Edited April 30, 2011 by Rider1
