S.h.r.i.k.e. Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I have done a lot of tweaks and stuff to improve my fps in Black Shark. They have helped a lot; however, I still find my game stuttering or in the low to mid 30 fps frequently. I would just like to smooth things out a bit. I have ~$140-150 to spend. Is there anything I can upgrade in that price range that will allow me to see a noticeable improvement? AMD Phenom II X2 255 Callisto BE 3.2GHz AM3 Overclocked to 3.5GHz Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Sapphire Radeon HD 4670 1 GB DDR3 Crucial 4x1GB DDR3 SDRAM 1333 (PC3 10600) Western Digital Caviar Blue WD3200AAKS 320GB Thanks!
Kuky Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Since you say you are having stuttering and you have ATI/AMD card try what I did... disable AMD External Events Utility service... that cured stuttering for me in DCS A-10C which I was having and it just might help you smooth things out No longer active in DCS...

So look in the CPU higher end ranges. I saw a video on the new intel i7 2600k and it rocked the Sim the guy was in cluter of buildings and and low and had 30 to 45 FPS see if I can find it. Kuky Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Now that you mentioned that Mastiff I see he's got HD4670 which is towards lower end also... he must be using low(er) settings No longer active in DCS...
71st_Mastiff Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 his hard drive is also low end. On a side note, Kukey I'm also experiencing stutters still 3 seconds every so often it looks like texture loading. I have a 1gb MSI GTX465n frozerii, It should be not doing this? the rest is in the sig I have an SSD 64 gb with only OS on it everything else is on the 1.5 tb 7200 Seagate. I did the firmware update with crucial also and trim. Still looks like the video side is the problem. "any failure you meet, is never a defeat; merely a set up for a greater come back", W Forbes. Kuky Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 get GPU-z and see how much of RAM on the video card is being used, it might be it, but if you say stutters are on steady intervals like I had (for me it was every 2 seconds) I am inclined to think it's some software/service doing it as it's polling or doing something in that interval... for me it turned out this ATI service was causing it... I don't know what equivalent nVidia cards/driver would have... you can try disabling V-sync as something it can cause stutters also if the FPS is about the same as sync frequency No longer active in DCS...
71st_Mastiff Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I'm sorry the video lag last 3 seconds is what I meant to say. But only at odd intervals like loading. if the memory is not all the way used up in the video card I have page file off do to the fact I have 8gb and the utility shows only 32% load when the game is running. side note the game was running perfect for 3 months this just started, not sure whats causing it. Kuky Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Since you have 8GB of system RAM I would say try disable page file completely... I have 12GB and have it disabled also. To know if you're running out of video RAM use GPU-z and log while flying... it'll tell you how much GPU and RAM is used No longer active in DCS...
