OKay - Here are pics of the canopy and glareshield. I had to make the frame larger with sheet plastic. The glareshield was made from MDF and I mounted a fan to add cooling for the monitor (it will run off my PC). The instrument panel shows how I had cut the plastic first then marked out the holes on the MDF. The picture with it in the cockpit was just a test fit (you can see the blue masking tape behind the MFCD's). I hadn't yet fully painted it or added the screws. When I drilled the holes in the MDF I screwed the panel to a large piece of Chipboard, so there was no chance of it moving around.

My first instrument test. Just testing placement at the moment. Will get the MFCD's and Instruments connected to DCS this week.

This is way cool. Should be easy to add the few knobs, too.

Don't know what I'm going to do about that yet panelbuilder. Pitbidr is going to make me a UFC which is going right above the RWR and MFCD's. I just want to get the base done at the moment. Why, what were your thoughts?

Thank you - So do I! - It's a nightmare trying to cut just using a hacksaw blade with a bit of tape wrapped around the end.

If he works a lot with tools, its nice to have it. And its not to expensive. You know, a saw table that cost around 400 euro will be borrowed if you ask me :) but a multitool is such handy to do multible things ;)

Yeah Succellus, Bigbad is right - Most of the money I have spent has been on tools. My father doesn't have any! Even with a worktable - you can substitute this with something else... BUt also, I can see the look in my wife's eye........ Mmmm - new tools... spare room needs re-doing... there is going to be payback time in the future .. haha :)

Rudder and base

Just made the first part of the rudder box. I think I'm going to open up the front so that I can adjust the position of the rudders. Looks crap at the moment but it works. I'll cut it down and to shape before building the base. I wish I had taken some pictures when I first brought it home. It was a real mess! I'm going to sand down the bulkhead behind the seat then line the inside with thin ply.

Base build

Been a good week. I built the base frame... It's level. thank god! I tested the seat position and wasn't happy. With the attached pictures it's difficult to see how limited the space is inside the K6 cockpit -. I think now that it probably would have been easier to design this build from scratch rather than trying to fit everything into the confines of the glider. Despite any setbacks I think it will work (immersion wise) when it is complete. I had to cut a larger hole for the rudder because it didn't feel comfortable when I sat inside and tried the rudder/ control postion. I've built a new box to hold the rudder control and will maybe have to make a new seat pan ( I'll try sitting in the seat again when it's back in the frame then deside).

It might have been easier to build from scratch, but come on, building a simpit using a real cockpit, the sound of that alone is worth the hassle, isn't it? :p

What spec10 says :) Is it possible to look how the ''real'' seat is mounted? Or maybe you to long for the pit?

I hope it will work, obviosly its awesome to build your home simulator in, what was an realy aicraft :D

Cradle

Yes Spec 10 - you are right but at the time I didn't realize how much work was involved... and the time to do it of course. I'm remaking the seat supports. It needs to be higher, then the seat position will be good. I'm also going to re-make the seat pan for added support for the thigh. With the leg supported in this way the lower leg will fall perfectly down to the rudder. I'm going to use rubber washers between the seat pan and supports - hopefully it will aid the Buttkicker (when I get one!). Pics attached showing the new seat support (well one) and the glider resting in it's cradle. It will all be covered with 12mm MDF and rounded off. I'm going to build a step into the side of the cradle and cut the side of the fusalage down to aid entry and a rest (or mouse platform) which will also act as the top step.

canopy

Just put the canopy on (it's not fixed yet) to take a couple of pictures. It's difficult to get a good view because the room I am working in is quite small!
