pcalvert Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Hi, My gliding club was going to dump/ burn this old K6-E aicraft because it was too expensive to re-build. So I thought it could be put to good use and turn it into an A10C (simplified) pit. Here are some pics of my progress. I had to extend my WH stick by 4" which worked quite well. I am working on the canopy at the moment having cut it down because of some damage. Hopefully I will have it finished by the end of the summer. Let me know what you think!!.......... This is looking pretty nice... hope the windscreen doesnt give you a distorted view of the monitor ahead... what software are you using which enables the MFD's to come up on the second monitor... and does it brings down the performance down...? pcalvert Posted March 29, 2011 Author Posted March 29, 2011 I use the MFD extraction lua. It's quite easy once you get the hang of it. I also got rid of my old GTX 280 and bought an Msi GTX 470 Twin Frozr. Really nice card, very easy to overclock, so no performance hit. I have to polish up the screen as it was fairly scratched. I used T-cut. It works well. My main screen (view) just fits inside the canopy dimensions - so I can see the whole monitor. It will be mounted on the nose right in front of the canopy. 1 Asus Rampage II Extreme, i7 920 @3.8Gh, 6Gb Corsair Dominator 1600hz, Msi GTX 470 Twin Frozr, Corsair 850w Mod PSU, TIR 5, HOTAS WH

pcalvert Posted May 4, 2011 Author Posted May 4, 2011 Udate Just a quick update - if anyone is interested. Just built the instrument panel from MDF, plastic and perspex. Going to add screws to the bezils and mount the monitor. Have a lot of work to do with the rudder and base. So I'll do a drawing - maybe someone with some experience can help... anyway - will post soon... here is the panel. Succellus Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Don t forget to rotate the stick for easyer handling. So far its looking awesome. The question i have is with the screen you will put as "cocpit". What do you plan to do ? Projection ? Big screen outside ? tree small screens inside cockpit ? pcalvert Posted May 4, 2011 Author Posted May 4, 2011 Hi Succellus, I'm going to put the monitor in front of the canopy. I've checked the size from the position of the head and you can see the whole monitor through the canopy. It still needs some work (polishing) I tried some poishing techniques on the remander of the canopy and it worked really well. There is one 17.5" widescreen going behind the instrument panel and I am using Helios. I read somewhere today about rotating the stick... but don't know yet how I can do that... there are some 'limitations' with my stick extension... i.e. it took me a whole week to make :) Asus Rampage II Extreme, i7 920 @3.8Gh, 6Gb Corsair Dominator 1600hz, Msi GTX 470 Twin Frozr, Corsair 850w Mod PSU, TIR 5, HOTAS WH

doright Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 (edited) My gliding club was going to dump/ burn this old K6-E aicraft because it was too expensive to re-build What a shame, I've logged a few hours in a K6cr. One of the best harmonized controls I've ever flown. Just a joy to fly. You could adjust your speed by one knot just squeezing our loosening your pinky finger. Edited May 10, 2011 by doright

Succellus Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Its getting awesome PCalvert, to rotate the stick its only a line in the advanced programing... i ll try to find it in the forum. There must be some in SimHQ as it was imported from there. HaF 922, Asus rampage extreme 3 gene, I7 950 with Noctua D14, MSI gtx 460 hawk, G skill 1600 8gb, 1.5 giga samsung HD. pcalvert Posted May 10, 2011 Author Posted May 10, 2011 Thanks Succellus. I'm quite pleased with it so far. I thought you meant rotate it physically. I'll have a search of the SimHQ forum tonight. pcalvert Posted May 13, 2011 Author Posted May 13, 2011 Update All instruments working now apart from the RWR. Can't yet get my head around what I need to do for that yet (probably lack of time!). I posted a 'help' thread here... http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=73692 But had no answers yet. Anyway - pitbldr is going to make me a UFC - which I'm completely over the moon about because he does some fantastic work and is really helpful with any questions I have. Just want to say thanks for everyones help... I think this community is awsome :)... Latest pics... pcalvert Posted May 17, 2011 Author Posted May 17, 2011 Base build Just going to start on the base now. I first need to cut a hole then build a box for the rudder, so that I can get the seating position right. I'm then going to build a base to support the whole cockpit and fit a buttkicker through the fusalage attaching to the seat. I'm going to try and build the rudder box this weekend. I would like to make them adjustable (lengthen or shorten) but am not sure how to do that yet. Succellus Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Men its awesome with the screws, it almost look like real stuff. I will look trought your file to see how you mocked up the instrument panel. I plan to do as you but probably a removable one for various (sims) depending on how demanding it is. pcalvert Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 Hi Succellus, I think I have one picture of how I did the bezels. I'll post it tonight. The panel can be removed easily. So I plan in the future to have several different panels depending on the Sim/ aircraft I am using. It wssn't too difficult to make. The panel was MDF and the bezels made from plastic sheet about 3/16th thick. I used different size hole saws to cut the plastic and MDF - works well (you have to use a low speed on the drill) Then I glued the bezels to the panel and drilled the holes for the screws (cant remember what size they are - I'll check) the back of the panel has a piece of perspex behind cut to size to fit the inside measurements (screen) on the monitor. Hope this helps..... Asus Rampage II Extreme, i7 920 @3.8Gh, 6Gb Corsair Dominator 1600hz, Msi GTX 470 Twin Frozr, Corsair 850w Mod PSU, TIR 5, HOTAS WH
bigbadthomazzz Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 It looks very nice :O I am looking forward to the end result
Succellus Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Sure it helps. You also said you will be using a BK2. What kind of sit will you use, the plane one as the initial pictures show ? If so it would be similar to what i plan. Right now my plan are to use a wracked car driver seat, so i can set height, distance to pedals and inclination at will depending on the mood of the day. And i m curious about BK2, not sure it would work well with such because its designed to office chairs or similars. pcalvert Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 Hi Succellus, I made the seat from MDF and bought some 1 1/2 inch foam from a linen shop. I'm having seat covers made (by my Wife!) It is surprisingly comfortable. I had to first cut away all the old supports for the old seat because it was to far forward (and the wrong shape). I am going to put rubber grommits between the support and the seat (to help the BK 2) I have no idea if the BK will work with a car seat. There is a thread somewhere about the BK2... I'm at work at the moment, but will look when I am home. Asus Rampage II Extreme, i7 920 @3.8Gh, 6Gb Corsair Dominator 1600hz, Msi GTX 470 Twin Frozr, Corsair 850w Mod PSU, TIR 5, HOTAS WH
