Gadroc Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Will HELIOS and Hawgtouch violate integrity checks? I luv my toys but i also only play online. Please advise. Helios only modifies one file which is Export.lua. This is required to extract data from the sim and do direct integration back in. If the server includes Export.lua in the integrity checks it will fail. You can use Helios with out the Export.lua but all gauges will be disabled and you will have to bind all buttons and switches to keyboard emulation instead of direct to simulator. Hawgtouch I believe is similar to running Helios to with only keyboard emulation, although some posts from Cleartouch indicate he's adding Export.lua integration. 1
ClearDark Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 HawgTouch 1.3 will support data export. And as Gadroc mentioned, it will break server integrity checks. Just like in Helios, using a modified "Export.lua" file is optional in HawgTouch.
Gadroc Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 I don't think Export.lua is included in the security checks by default. It was a problem that many servers added it once FC2 came online with BlackShark. People started writing competitive missions and started to think of Leavu as a "cheat" and they started enforcing stock Export.lua to export scripts. Since A-10 doesn't really have a air to air capability I doubt we'll see the same problem until DCS "Fighter" comes out.
dooom Posted April 1, 2011 Author Posted April 1, 2011 i really fail to see how any exports can be viewed as "Cheats" - please enlighten me to the controversy? Gadroc Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Leavu used the export to create radar views and other functions that where not available in the real aircraft. I also believe some modes of it gave target next type abilities instead of having to slew radar cursor etc... but I've never really used it.
dooom Posted April 1, 2011 Author Posted April 1, 2011 ah - sad how such a fun element of the game and the sim hobby can be so effectively taken away from those of us whom enjoy MP online .... i wish integrity checks could seperate between approved external applications like HELIOS & HT from exploits such as you describe. CyBerkut Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 i really fail to see how any exports can be viewed as "Cheats" - please enlighten me to the controversy? You can find plenty of discussion on this in other threads, but I would say the salient points are... Export deals with more than just the switches and lights in your cockpit. For instance, export deals with: - status of switches, lights, etc. - user's position data - detected target position data It is the last two items that step into the controversial realm... in that in the minds of many, that information being available in a data link (when it isn't handled that way in the modeled aircraft) constitutes an unfair advantage. Since the export file has that data available, it can be transferred by external means (i.e LEAVU) and/or displayed in manner that is not available in the modeled aircraft. ClearDark Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 I think the main reason Export.lua was put into checks is because of TacView. Having TacView generating ACMI for the entire "server" you could open it during a mission and see where everyone else were on the map during the game itself.
