Impact Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 So, after I got my Warthog stick running, I decided that I need a better computer. At the moment I still use a Core 2 Duo, 3 GB Ram, and a 9800 GTX+, with a 32 Bit system. For normal games its enough, Crysis 2 runs in maximum settings really smooth, but I know that every game is consolized so PC games are at a limit right now, since consoles took over. I plan on getting this: ASRock X58 Extreme6, X58 (triple PC3-10667U DDR3) Kingston HyperX DIMM XMP Kit 6GB PC3-10667U CL7-7-7-20 (DDR3-1333) Intel Core i7-960, 4x 3.20GHz ASUS ENGTX580 DCII/2DIS/1536MD5, GeForce GTX 580, 1.5GB GDDR5, 2x DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort All together for 910 Euro. As I am aiming for the best price for performance in A10c, what can I downgrade in order to get a cheaper price? What do you suggest? I think that the simulation doesnt need a GTX580, and that bastard is very expensive. I got a Triple Kit for the ram as the CPU supports that. Would this be an important point? or should i just get 4x2gb? ------=:: I FLY BLEIFREI ::=------
MTFDarkEagle Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 That's a very good setup :) What you could downgrade is the gfx card, but that depends on your monitor/resolution. If it's a big big three screened setup you have, I would still go for the 570/580, but if you just have one screen, you could as well go for the 560ti. Several on this forum have on, and are very pleased. Your ram kit: keep it like it is. What you might do, when you can obviously, is get faster ram (ddr3-1333 -> 1333 indicates the frequency, the higher the better basically..) Hope this helps :) Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
KillaALF Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 You are right about the GTX580, but why would you go for an i7-960? Sandybridge (i5-2500k) is what I would advise right now for an Intel based setup. Also, if you don't plan on using SLI you can pick a cheaper mainboard. DDR3 Ram is pretty cheap atm, 8GB (2x4GB) are around 60€ here.
rextar Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Impact thats a good price! Im in uk does your supplyer have a web site? Hmm wonder if they ship! Intel i5 3.2 ghz 8 GB crucial ram gtx 660 superclocked 2gb 500watt corsair psu win7 64bit extreme pro track ir5 Turtle beach x12
Impact Posted April 7, 2011 Author Posted April 7, 2011 Impact thats a good price! Im in uk does your supplyer have a web site? Hmm wonder if they ship! It is more like a cheapest-price-search-site: http://geizhals.at/deutschland/ But I got a good supplyer, who is about cheap in every section. But it is from germany, so you would have to pay higher taxes and the transport costs. But I dont want SLI, so I will downgrade there. I will also down grade the graphicscard, as there is an inflation of graphics power needed in current times for current "console port" games. Hope this helps I already have the DDR3-1333, there are 1600 MHz Dimms, but no mainboard can use it (maybe server boards?) What I now plan on using is a 1 display set up with my old 19 inch LG screens in vertical config, so I can see the Front Dashboard with the lower one. In june I will get my Obutto flightgear, which is a big pilot seat, with a stand to attach a display, and I will try to fit the second one under it. I have 3 screens, but one is "borrowed" by my mother. I already have a Triplehead2go in case I want to become insane. Native resolution is 1280x1024. But If money is left, I may get a big widescreen with HDMI so I can finally play some console games in 1080p (although its still not comparable to good old PC :)) Why should I get an Core i5-2500K? Why pay money for that integrated GPU? As I use a different one? ------=:: I FLY BLEIFREI ::=------
KillaALF Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Why should I get an Core i5-2500K? Why pay money for that integrated GPU? As I use a different one? Because only the K-models (with integrated GPU) have an unlocked multiplier which is a big bonus for overclocking. And the 2500k is still cheaper than the i7-960 you picked.

Because the 2500K is enough to run A10C with everything on High? ------=:: I FLY BLEIFREI ::=------
KillaALF Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 The biggest difference between the 2500k and the 2600k is that the latter has hyper-threading. Most games don't benefit from this and there are some (DCS:A10 being one of them) that actually run slower with HT enabled. Other than that these are 2 of the fastest CPUs available right now - and they are easy to overclock for even more power.

KillaALF Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 The only thing to add now is a good aftermarket cooling solution - say an EKL Alpenfoehn Brocken or a Scythe Mugen 2 - other than that it's a great setup. https://shop.vv-computer.de/shop/browse/1312-Prozessorkuehler

Also these 2 only work together with s1156, not s1155. ------=:: I FLY BLEIFREI ::=------
KillaALF Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Yeah, if you don't overclock the cooler that comes with the boxed version of the CPU is enough. Probably even good enough for some slight overclocking. Alpenfoehn Brocken Scythe Mugen 2 Both work with S1155.
