Fish Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 (edited) Hi All, Recently modified my controller axis, and has made a huge difference for more accurate flying. You can see the kit I use from the sig below. Basically I removed all curves in my stick/rudder software, and added from the game. KillaALF Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 "Joy_Z" is the throttle on my Cougar - I have that set up as a slider, I don't need a curvature there. For X and Y axes I use even higher curvatures on top of the ones I have set up in the CCP, plus substantial deadzones in both sim and CCP. My Cougar has the FSSB R1 mod and without those settings it was much too squirrely for my tastes. Maybe I should try out the higher force settings, but now that I've finally tuned it to my tastes I'd really rather not.
Fish Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 "Joy_Z" is the throttle on my Cougar - Its the main axis of my CH pedals. KillaALF Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Are yours the USB type? Mine are the old gameport type plugged into my Cougar and they show as "Joy_RZ" in the sim.
Bucic Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 ... I remember reading an advice from someone involved with ED when FC was released that axis should be linear for most realistic handling. Is this still true for DCSW? I'm considering tweaking myself as my x52 is getting a little old, and has become a bit unweildy... (It kinda wants to stay in it current position and jerks a little when moved, almost as it gets "stuck") AFAIK it's correct for most aircrafts out there. Unfortunately we do have to deal with PC simulator controls culprits (yeah, you too Warthog owners) and curvature is the only way to deal with it. I've been advocating for curvatures use since the very first month of my Black Shark flying, two years ago or so. Many people would probably found about it earlier but I needed to clean up my signature :) Joystick configuration tips and advices I wish I could toggle in game between two axis curves....it would be sweet to swtich to the "Smooth Hog" for refueling and then back to "Twitch Hog" for the rest. I just tried the curves on X and Y, and I found out how accustomed I was to no curve when I failed to pull out of a steep gun run with Smooth Hog. Yes, a properly set curvature can "simulate" a real long control stick - hand inertia / delay. In Falcon 4.0 :tomato: there was an option to switch to less sensitive controls for refueling. It was activated at the moment of fuel valve cover opening. I don't know if the real 16 has something like that. F-5E simpit cockpit dimensions and flight controls Kill the Bloom - shader glow mod Poor audio Doppler effect in DCS [bug] Trees - huge performance hit especially up close
Zeke Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Fellow Cougar users, What buttons are you using for your 'trim' buttons, I'm using 'Viper's' profile and like it very much. One thing I can't seem to get right is the trim functions in this sim. Not sensitive enough. Any special settings out there we can use to help out? 1
KillaALF Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Hmm, I also use Viper's profile (modified to suit my tastes) - in my case I have trim on the DMS hat (S3 in) and I have to say that works quite well for me. Using short, gentle taps for trimming I cannot say I'm having problems with sensitivity, but on the other hand I rarely trim the plane for 100% perfection and I also use the autopilot quite often.

Yep, just flying around it's easy to trim out the plane, but I find trimming it for Air to Air refueling to be a real pain, just can't get it perfect.
Fish Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 (edited) Fellow Cougar users, What buttons are you using for your 'trim' buttons, You can see my profile here No exotic setup for trim. But agree, would be great to be able to decrease trim sensitivity.
