scousejohno Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 Hi All, First post. I have been wanting to get into flight sims for quite some time now. I always recalled playing various flight games back on the commadore 64 (showing my age). I have run my own FPS community for many years now http://www.mature-gamer.com, and really need something different from a PC perspective to find a way of winding down after a days work, and would certainly be looking for some organised mp action once i get to grips with A-10/Ka-50. I have a saitek evo force, 23" screen and headset etc, and the amount of keyboard settings is somewhat bewildering at times, so any suggestions in that department would be most welcome. So i guess im looking for any hints, tips etc to get me up to speed, naturally i will read all the docs, carry out all the sp side of things. Is there a list of squadrons/communities that take newbies on board and show them the ropes as such? If so links would be appreciated!
mikemc Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 hi there, I am also new, well its been awhile since I have played lomac. If you want maybe we could get together online a help each other out.
HiJack Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 The only good human vs human play right now is done online with Flaming Cliffs 2 on the 104th server. Joining their TS3 server when flying gives the best outcome compared to the FPS team battles. There are other interesting online servers also but then more with chat comminication.
scousejohno Posted April 24, 2011 Author Posted April 24, 2011 Hi Mike, Thanks for the offer. I think i have a fair way to go before i can even try MP if im honest. But once i get up to speed i will give you a shout if thats ok? @ jack, we have always used TS for FPS (around 10 years), so im well versed with the comms online :)
shu77 Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 HI There. Welcome aboard. Many of us started with the C64 so its not actually anything to feel embarrased about there. In terms of your set up Think about getting a Track IR That frees up a set of controls from managing view, and is incredibly intuitive. If you are Flying the A-10 You will probably find your joystick is a little under specced. Theres a couple of options out there depending on how much you want to spend. I run a Saitek X-52 quite happily, though its also worth looking at the Logitech G940, and the Thrustmaster Warthog. its also worth considering getting some Thrustmaster Cougar MFD's which make managing systems much easier, especially if you throw the MFD's onto a second monitor Past that finding a squad to help with the basics is a great option. im flying quite happily with the 77th these days, though there are a number of other good squads you will find on line Hornet, Super Carrier, Warthog & (II), Mustang, Spitfire, Albatross, Sabre, Combined Arms, FC3, Nevada, Gulf, Normandy, Syria AH-6J i9 10900K @ 5.0GHz, Gigabyte Z490 Vision G, Cooler Master ML120L, Gigabyte RTX3080 OC Gaming 10Gb, 64GB RAM, Reverb G2 @ 2480x2428, TM Warthog, Saitek pedals & throttle, DIY collective, TrackIR4, Cougar MFDs, vx3276-2k Combat Wombat's Airfield & Enroute Maps and Planning Tools
