Kuky Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Hi all, I am thinking of getting this laptop for my girlfriend (she wants an upgrade) and I've been looking for hours on the net to see if this laptop can be upgraded to a SSD and I can't find anything So, if some of you by chance own this laptop can you tell me if the HDD bay is accessible and are you able to change the standard HDD with a SSD? Bucic Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 I'd suggest you download the user's manual and look it up there. If such an information is not there, try downloading the servicing manual. IMO if memory and HDD bays are not accessible in a notebook, you simply don't buy it :) F-5E simpit cockpit dimensions and flight controls Kill the Bloom - shader glow mod Poor audio Doppler effect in DCS [bug] Trees - huge performance hit especially up close
Kuky Posted May 7, 2011 Author Posted May 7, 2011 IMO if memory and HDD bays are not accessible in a notebook, you simply don't buy it :) yup, that's exactly how I feel also. My GF's curent laptop is older Sony VAIO and it only has access to system memory. I wanted to at least open it up and see if I can put in a SSD so I did, what I saw is smaller size HDD then 2.5" so no SSD for that and I don't want to buy another one that is the same way. Bucic Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Don't you think that civilized shop should switch HDD for SSD of charge, even if HDD bay is not that easily accessible? I mean you'd pay for SSD, of course :) F-5E simpit cockpit dimensions and flight controls Kill the Bloom - shader glow mod Poor audio Doppler effect in DCS [bug] Trees - huge performance hit especially up close
Kuky Posted May 7, 2011 Author Posted May 7, 2011 Of course you'd pay for it, but I would say not having easily accessible bay to take out and replace the HDD would mean people in the shop would have to open the casing and by that they would void the warranty as Sony does not want you to open it up like that and why they stick stickers over the screw holes. Anyway, I checked this and it only has a bay for memory so I'm not going to get this one or any other laptop from Sony as they are all the same. Did more searching tonight and have found most Asus laptops have a bay for HDD and can easily replaced with SSD so I'm going for one of them :) Sony = 0 Asus = 1 :D PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
