jwflowersii Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Typically, what mode of CCIP do you guys use 3/9, 5 Mil, or just standard? Thanks, Roses
Bahger Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 It's generally not necessary to alter the default delivery consent modes. Where it can be very effective, however, is in a low-level ingress with, say, CBUs. Switching from consent mode "Off" to "3/9" enables you to make a much shallower dive to get the pipper on the target. You'll get a non-segmented azimuth consent line in the HUD at 3 -5 degrees nose down. The 3/9 and 5 mil modes present narrower margins for error and will refuse consent if the release does not conform to these parameters. For this reason, I do not switch to 3/9 or 5 mil unless there are specific advantages such as the example given above. In my experience, 3-9 and 5 Mil are used mainly as default modes, not in CCIP but in CCRP, where, for example dropping an unguided Mk-82 on a designated target requires a 5 Mil release consent mode to maximise the chances of a hit. When dropping an LGB, however, the symbology and process is basically the same but the consent mode is 3/9 (I seem to recall) because a small deviation in aiming calculations can obviously be compensated for by the bomb's (limited) ability to guide itself to the target.
sungsam Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Additionally, 3/9 or 5 mil gives you the oportunity to move from CCIP to CCRP in a fasion. You aim in CCIP, consent to release, level a/c or climp to toss the bombs the same way as CCRP. 5 mil is for more accurate delivery than 3/9, since it demands the solution que to pass from the aiming piper while 3/9, just from the aiming reticle that surrounds the piper. Sinky Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 If I'm dropping in the fashion that sungsam described then I will always opt for 5 mil over 3/9 for dumb munitions. sungsam Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 (edited) If I'm dropping in the fashion that sungsam described then I will always opt for 5 mil over 3/9 for dumb munitions. 5 mil is true for single smaller targets than need accurate aiming with weaponds that demand it eg MK-82. With CBUs on concentrated targets 3/9 works well also. What we are missing here for CCIP CR mode is the fact that it's the only method you can use for targets of oportunity, where you fly relatively low (you can't spot targets of oportunity high) and you don't have the luxury to Laser designate/SPI/Slave all etc. according to CCRP demands. So in situation like this above, CCIP in CR mode is the best you can do in my opinion. You directly aim in CCIP, concent to release (CR), quickly level AC (equals to tossing) avoiding low altitute crash dive, and target boom ! :smilewink: Edited May 12, 2011 by sungsam DCS F16C 52+ w JHMCS !
