Phantom_Mark Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Had a good look in the manual and a general poke around the forum but I have failed to find detailed info on the weapon specs, stuff like ranges, min/max/opt release heights, speeds etc etc etc. Seems like the ingame reference is a missed chance to store this vital info. Getting better at not peppering my aircraft with shrapnel from mk82/84's but it would be nice to save myself all the trial and error and do it properly from the start, well aware of the HUD symbology for blast height but still seem to trip up on occasion. -Ice Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 My general rule is not to release below 3000 AGL for normal bombs. MK82 AIRs can be released lower. LGBs and IAMs are best released 8000 feet or higher, with some preferring 20,000 or so. As for techniques on deploying these weapons, that should be up to you since the threat environment would dictate your delivery methods. I generally prefer a CCRP drop, wings level, rather than a CCIP dive. - Ice
JEFX Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Actually this is a very very good point. This kind of info has always been kind of missing since Lockon times. In the encyclopedia, there are some numbers, but never really practical info about many units. For example, what is the minimum distance to use MLRS, what is the maximum range of all artys (Russian, US, etc.), what is the detection range of the different radars, range of guns on different ships, etc... Back in 2007, we had quite a good exchange on that topic in the forum, with Brit Radar Dude. Look at this post : http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=338969&postcount=9 and this one : http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=338993&postcount=10 Of course, the numbers might not work anymore, since they are not totally exact according to real life but rather numbers decided by our dear DCS designers. They might have change some or tweaked some. For mission designing purpose, one of my dearest whish would be to have well organized tables with all those numbers, distances, number of rounds, reload times, minimum range, maximum range, etc. for all units (I know some are there in the encyclopedia, but I suspect some of those numbers to be actually the real life numbers and not really the AI behavior tables...). Dear DEVS, do you think you couls supply us with these? I, for my part, dont have the (very lengthy) time it had taken to do all these experiment back in 2007... (too much work, less time to fly, kids.. life...) thanks Jean-Francois [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] In DCS I fly jets with thousands of pounds of thrust... JEFX Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 more old posts that might be of use or not : http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=339009&postcount=11 http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=339129&postcount=12 http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=340384&postcount=16 http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=340548&postcount=19 But I do repeat, THOSE NUMBERS ARE NOT TAKEN FROM DCS A-10C (NEITHER BS) but from 2007 Lockon. THEY MIGHT NOT BE ACCURATE NOW. But just as an example of what took hours to experiment... JF [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] In DCS I fly jets with thousands of pounds of thrust... Phantom_Mark Posted May 11, 2011 Author Posted May 11, 2011 Well at least I never missed something obvious then lol. Already pretty comfortable with 82/84's of different variants, including deployment options etc, wanna get started with smart bombs next which seems the next logical choice but no clue where to start ATM Thanks again.
